ford transit sport
Hi all wright I'm currently looking at buying a van I took a transit sport out today for a spin its a 57plate the LX model so think its the 120/130bhp one.
The question I have is when driving when in 3rd and 4th gear the van struggled as in it got to 3000rpm and wouldn't go over that or if it did it would seem to be a srugle all other gears were fine. Could this be an easy fix or a big problem tried searching the next but couldn't find much on it?? Any help would be much appreciated thanks. Greg :thumb: |
Hi mate, they suffer from EGR valves really badly.
Also the injectors are common aswel :) A EGR blanking kit can be brought :) |
cheers mate I guess that the egr valves and especially the injectors are expensive as have recently had a few problems regarding them with my ford connect.
If the egr was knackered and a blanking kit was put on would it then run fine but would it keep the engine management light on?? |
I think if you blank them off you can turn the light of via a diagnostic machine I believe but don't hold me to that, as I had one a while back
I'd say EGR to |
Is it different to mondeo ?
I spent approx. 750 each on clutch dmf flywheel , and then turbo On 100k miler . Lasted for another 50k |
I've had a few transits and they all seem to go flat, would love the new shape sport
|
Well this one is on 82k has FSH seems to drive pretty well not juddering etc just as flat as a witches tit most the time in 3rd and 4th at 3000rpm. Hes asking 5k for it and says he is going to get the issue looked at etc also hes getting the rust sorted above the windscreen with 2 new front tyres. You lot think its a fair price?
b3nmw what you mean them all seem to go flat?? |
Not for a van with a fecked engine - It could be the turbo. That's bad news. And rusty arches too.
You can get plenty of van for £5k. |
Have you had a look at the vivaro facelift? I had an 07 plate 2.5 cdti and it was 140bhp standard. Better 6 speed box than the old ones. It pulled really well and not bad on fuel. Around the same price too
|
Just no go especially when going up hills, it might be the mileage on the ones work has had.

I had a vivaro in the past granted it was a 53 plate but had endless problems with it cost me around the 2k mark over a year and to add insult to injury after all that the frigging thing blew up lol. So from that experience I will probably not go near one lol |
Yeah the older ones were full of problems but the 2.5 cdti newer ones seem to be a lot better. I got rid of mine on 155k and apart from servicing it the only thing I had to do was the power steering pump.
|
I use to have a 08 plate traffic same as the vivaro and i done 40k in just under 2 years and never let me down once. That's until my mate wrote it off :/
I now have the new transit custom now has 11k on the clock and i cant recommend it enough well worth it. Drives like a car and very comfortable on long 4-5hr journeys. There are some great lease deals out there at the moment too which is what i do. |
Well for me my budget wouldn't stretch to a custom and leasing one wouldn't really suit me either as because I'm on the books I wouldn't be able to claim the vat back.
