SORN

How long can my car be off the road whilst it is being fixed by garage before I have to declare it as SORN? Tax expires end of this month.

Thanks, David

You get certain amount of grace to make decision afaik

I'm sure you need to declare SORN as soon as your tax runs out, irrespective of where the vehicle is kept, or you risk a fine and will have to pay any back tax owed from the expiry date.

I think this is correct

But it not really an issue, done online takes 90 seconds, then tax as normal, whether a day or week after it has been sorned

The car has just failed an MOT although old one is still valid. So if I tax it will they accept old one as still valid or is that overridden by new failed test?

The old one is still valid for taxing the vehicle but unless the vehicle has had it's MOT failure problem(s) fixed then should you take it on the road you are driving an unroadworthy car.

I would never accept a valid MOT as meaning the car was safe to drive.
