Red bull soapbox racing... "Interesting" folk...

I've been watching a bit of the soapbox racing on Dave this morning and is it me or are all the contestants nutty professors/a bit strange? Their contraptions look bonkers and every "race" starts off with a crazy dance of some sort by the team. Are you purposely not meant to take it seriously; the more bizarre you, your costumes and your contraption can be, the more likely you are to be shown on TV? Huh at least they're having fun I guess? :wonder::Suspiciou

...and is it really necessary to have 2 GoPro cameras attached to a single crash helmet which some contestants have?

Watching it now, and yes, they all seem a tad eccentric.

Very enjoyable though.

That's the word I was trying to think of.

I went to watch it at Roundhay Park in Leeds some years ago, it was a spectacle that's for sure:lol1:

I think most of the points are awarded for the design and the style\showmanship, which would account for the dancing at the start. I don't think the times are that important.

Double wishbone set up on one of the soap boxes appeared a bit of a step away from what I'd peg as a soap box. The AM Dram stuff at the beginning is all unnecessary tbh, regardless of it being televised.........
