HELP. private plate guru's please

Hi guys.
I'm selling my wagon tomorrow morning and it's got a private plate.
I need to know how do I get this off the car on retension.
Dvla says I need a v750 form. It takes 10 days to arrive.
I've read somewhere else aswell as soon as he signs the logbook the plate is auto in the new keepers name.
I need help I don't know what I'm doing

Don't give the new keeper the logbook you need to send off the logbook and a retention form to keep the plate . When the new logbook arrives then you can send it off into the new owners name

You should of pre planned , maybe put the buyer off a couple of weeks or ask him to be understanding and take the car with a written receipt but no logbook as you need to send it off to retain the plate

If I was refused the new keeper slip when buying a car I would walk away. I agree with a bit of PPPPPPP.

Thing is I told him yesterday and he's coming tomoz.to sell a car I keep the logbook anyway to send off.
can I send off the logbook (with his details filled in)
With a retension slip in the same envelope?

Does the buyer know the plate isnt being sold with the car? if so he may be understanding.

It's a V317 you need and you can download it here

I would contact the dvla and see what they say

They might be able to do everything in one go, but I wouldn't just fill out the logbook and send it off because you can loose your plate .

Usually at work, when we sell a part exchange that's on a private plate, we have to wait for the logbook to come back in the original reg before giving the car to the new Owner unless it's a trader whom are willing to take the car without the logbook and
Have it follow in the post once the retention is completed

I normally take the plates off before advertising a car for sale

Log book and mot need to be sent off.
I've just taken one off my van and put it onto my car , I sent both sets of documents off on a Sunday night and had everything back on the Friday so they are quick at the moment.
Photocopy the v5 and mot for the new owner and show him you are sending all originals off to dvla

You can do this online and pay the fee by debit card.

Go to the DVLA website and click on 'removing a number plate from a vehicle'

Now costs £80 instead of the previous £105, you get notification immediately that the plate has gone onto retention.

You will then receive a replacement V5 (log book) and retention certificate by post.

The V5 will arrive a lot quicker than it used to, two of my customers have had the new log book back to them in 3 days !

You can put a registration on retention online, took 2 mins. You are instantly given a registration which the new owner can use for insurance etc.
