Advice on buying scoob...

Righto, I'm after another Scooby. Just after some advice please chaps.

I've found a wrx, 55 plate. Full STI trim. STI Goodies inc. intercooler, brakes, bov 😳, full through exhaust.

Quite low mileage. Looks fantastic.

Thing is, no service history! They've serviced it and fitted new cam belt (50k).

Not much more info on it either. It's bloody gorgeous but the lack of service history really makes me wonder.

Is it such a big deal and would it make it a lot harder to sell once I eventually sell up?

Also, is it just me or has the Scooby price market rocketed?

Thanks all

Hi mate,

Good question. Don't ever rush into buying a Scooby for its looks or the pressure. The fact that no history is available I would be a little dubious. That being said if they are a genuine sell then I am sure they would have no issue meeting you to have the car independently inspected.

Some things to look at with the new ages. Arch rust, front sub frame rust. I would also check the car out with the DVLA millage ect.

Make sure that you take someone who knows Subarus inside out. Test drive is make sure it pulls without hesitation leave it idling whilst talking about it make sure there is no over heating or knocking.

might also be worth posting the advert members might even know the previous owners are.

Hope the above helps

Good luck

Thanks for that mate

I've had a bug eye, but wouldn't say I know them inside out. I'm a qualified motor technician of over 8 years so I know what to look for generally. Just wanted advice regarding mods with no proof of maps and no service details.

This is the ad, hope it works, link from website doesn't work.

Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks

No worries Mate.

For that money I would go no where near it. Reason.......

Have a look on page 2

For that kind of money and a little be of negotiation you can get yourself an STI from a tried and tested dealer.

Max is a great guy who is always fair.

see what you think

Cheers mate thanks for that. That's why I asked if Scooby prices have hit the roof. I already knew it was massively over prices anyways and was gona get it down if possible. But this lack of service dilemma is really making me wanting to just leave it. I was in dilemma of wrx vs sti last time around and went wrx. Realised sti was just too much and insurance was a killer. Only after 300hp max and need it to be reliable aswell. I'll keep looking but thanks for your advice mate, really appreciate it!

Way over-priced, walk away.

Yeah I knew that but was hoping to do a decent deal. But I just can't get my head around a performance car with no proof of servicing.

Anyone had any dealings with JCT cars?

7k is quite a lot for a replica in my opinion. I would avoid stuff with minimal or no history

Cheers guys for the help. I'm currently talking with max at hurst cars at the moment and also might be viewing one from jct.

Dan, sorry but I've been with Adrian flux for over 8yrs and they were the first quote I got for the scoob. It was almost 1800. Confused came up average 700. So unfortunately with scoobys, Adrian flux just don't want to know. Shame I guess.

Sorry Dan,

I have to agree with Scooby Kow. I have had quotations in the past and they have been very high.

Hi,
Thanks for the feedback.
I'm surprised we were so far out thought to be honest. Would you be able to PM me your details so I can take a look at the quotation?
Regards,
Dan.
