Lager (or similar)suggestions please.

Hi

I'm helping to organize a relative's wedding in July. There will be plenty of lager drinkers and I'm assuming it will be a hot day so people will have their thirst on!

The main lager will be good old Stella but I'd like to add one or two interesting choices (not the usual stuff ie Peroni, Corona etc) and would welcome some suggestions.

Personally I don't really like Singha, Tiger, Cobra etc so they are out.

Thanks

What about a blond beer, a Leffe or something similar to that.

I like wife-beater as the primary choice :D

davyboy 10 June 2015 09:58 AM

...anything not brewed in this country.

I love the little cans of Heineken. Warstiener in bottles is as good as it gets.

http://www.majestic.co.uk/beer have a good selection.

A blonde beer could be done but not Leffe as you see it in quite a few pubs, I want something a bit more unusual.

But I agree, you can't beat a cold Nelson Mandela!

Best lager in the World (it won that award) is Sharps Pilsner; it's absolutely bloody lovely and brewed just up the road; they might stock it near you but if not, call to see where you can get some. Most Tescos stock it.

Trust me, you will love it and so will all your guests.

Thanks, I've never had Warstiener. There is a Majestic near me but I'm assuming they only sell by the case? I need to test the beers (it's a hard life) so need to be able to buy singles or small packs.

Warstiener or Bitburger are both very nice

An alternative is Curious Brew http://www.chapeldown.com/curious-brew, very drinkable

TASTING NOTES

We use East Anglian malt, saaz and cascade hops, then re-ferment using Champagne yeast before adding a "dosage" of the rare and fragrant Nelson Sauvin hop before cold filtering this unpasturised beer into bottle. Full-flavoured and well balanced with aromatic hoppy notes and a crisp refreshing finish.

Also brewed by Sharps but it's an ale. Their "Atlantic" pale ale is a sort of halfway house between lager and ale; also superb. Serve the lager ice cold, Atlantic cool but not as cold.

My wife's grandad built their industrial units (he still owns several next to it).

Of the various 'mass-market' offerings available in large supermarkets, Carlsberg Export is definitely the cleanest and best-tasting IMO.

No idea if they will ship a single order to the mainland or not.

Yes, that Tyskie is very good too

But please, only the homeless should drink out of cans

Or a substitute for Peroni (which I do like) is Moretti

But please, whatever is chosen - bottles only

SJ_Skyline 10 June 2015 02:50 PM

The Tesco everyday value range will offer your guests a rare treat. ;)
