Need a couple of cheap PCs

Hi all
Finally making the jump from working from home to getting a office. Budget is mega tight so looking at getting 2 basic desktop PCs (just the base units). Budget is £500 max (£250 each). They don't have to have fancy gfx cards, don't have to have an attractive case, but they do need at least 8Gb and a processor that won't struggle with doing some CAD work as well as the usual Word/Excel stuff.

I haven't kept up to speed with processors so not sure what's good any more.

Cheers
Matt

i find the intel core i5 is a decent budget chip for a PC these days - the i7 chip is far far better and you will notice the difference but the price shoots up a bit. I'm not sure how the i5 would cope with the CAD work and maybe you need a fancier than standard graphics card for that?

I've had good deals from EuroPC in the past:

They don't always have all their stock on the website and they can custom add bits in so if you see one you like but it's only got 4gb of ram they will upgrade it for you before shipping.

If they don't have what you need then try Deane as well:

Matt, you're IT literate, just go onto eBay/Gumtree and find something suitable & cheap, reformat, new install of your favourite OS and off you go. Doesn't need to be new does it?

Hi mate, yeah true, doesn't need to be new I guess. I'm getting lazy in my old age lol

As above surely you do need a decent GPU ?

Are you sure you remember Matt correctly? :D

Best of luck Matt, oh and are you fully bald now?

Nah don't need a decent GPU, we just do 2D cad, no rendering.
I've got a couple of 560ti's which should do everything we need.

No not fully bald yet, in fact I've probably not lost that much more but what I have got is mostly grey lol
