Yep very young and terrible for his family. Whilst i'm absolutely no Lib Dem fan and find most politicians dislikeable he was one that I never disliked and Would listen to what he had to say even if I didn't agree with it. He was one of few politicians who came across to me as a normal person, or to put it another way he was in touch with reality unlike most politicians.

R.I.P.

+1

It's rare you get the opp. to put politician and decent human being in the same sentence.

Just 55 - terrible. RIP

Shame, I actually quite liked him as a politician.

A few on here (one in particular) could learn a lot from that.

Totally. I remember posting that classic NTNON clip when some other politician passed on and all the tributes from contemporary 'enemies' came out. :thumb:

Genuinely came across as a nice bloke. His calm demeanour and assured delivery without badmouthing others was a rare trait in modern politics. RIP.

I was very sorry to hear this as he was genuinely a chap you felt was being honest. So the booze got to him and I guess losing his seat didn't help. I thought he had cracked it but clearly not. I still recall Paxman mauling him about his drinking back in 2002 (it's on You Tube but bad taste to post it here).

I hope his family get some comfort from all the kind words said about him.

One of the few politicians to have the courage to object to the invasion of Iraq -- turns out the was right, looking at the state of it now.....

RIP
