Thinking of a Honda Civic
 

As title really. Im after a bit of advice. My uk 2000 t is tired and needs a few jobs in most aspects of the car , Needs an engine , new wings . bumpers etc. I realise its "only" a uk model and nothing special so ive been loking to change make. Drove a civic and was impressed by how it drives and most other things. Anyone got one or had one that could give some insight into ownership. Bad and good points .

what type of civic?

i had a cosmic grey ep3 facelift type r and it is probably the best car ive ever had.

ok they are not the quickest but they are far from slow and they take an insane amount of punishment.there is something about hooning around @ 8200rpm :norty:

gearboxes can be notchy but iits more likely to be clutch related as my car was a pig to get in 2nd gear coming down the box,put an exedy clutch in it with some proper gearbox oil aswell and it drove like a dream.

valve clearances need doing @ 75k i think (£100)

brakes could be better so could headlight output hence i fitted hid's and uprated brakes.

fit a tegiwa carbon induction system and the sound when in v-tec can only be described as...........AWESOME

great cars and great handling straight from the factory.dont compare it to the scoob as its not a 4x4 turbo,compare it to a leon/vxr etc........better looking than a leon and more reliable than a vxr and if funds allow then go for a supercharged version :eek::eek::eek:

My previous ep3 was spot on. Good on fuel and comfy. There good money for what you get

My mate had 2 Civic type R's cracking cars, never had any problems with them, and not a bad car to drive, he let me have ago one day.

To be honest prefer the Impreza, but i can see the apeal of the Civic, Vtec engine goes nuts at high end, look a nice car, handle well, engines are bullet proof. Drivers seat is annoying.

Yes it has, how can an engine have no torque?

Yes , these things seem to attract opposite ends of the spectrum

Well im 57 so must be an old fart lol. Some good stuff bout the civic . Its not the old shape but the one with the headlights that seem to wrap round the front. Sos for the description , but ive no idea of specs n model numbers etc. I love my classic but its 15 years old and hadnt been well looked after till i got it but i have a feeling its turning into a money pit and i just feel i mavbe put the money into another motor. Was looking at blobs too .

And i guess i do get looks cos of my age in a scooby, Really dont give two monkeys what people think tbh. Just cant see me driving a Zafira or similar lol

An Integra may be a better bet.

That's the lower end of the spectrum for the fn2 shape which suffer gearbox problems.

6k will get you a mint 56 plate premier edition ep3

civic or integra?

I had a 95 eg civic as my first, second and third car. All at different trim and engine levels. 3 of the best cars I've ever owned and loved every minute of ownership. I can't say much in the way of new civics but if they drive anything like their old counterparts you'll love it

I 'only' have a Turbo 2000 and before I bought it I test drove a EP3 Civic Type R. Glad I went for the Subaru that's for sure. The newer FN2 models are worse than the older EP3 models. EP3's are quicker than FN2's as well. If you're still set on a type R, get a nice premier edition for £6k and it'll hold value well.

I have a civic EXGT petrol for 18 months now to go with my Nismo and Greenwagon
I use it for my executive journeys
Ultra reliable and build quality excellent and a good long life car
Mine is too of the range with sat hands free ,leather ever imaginable extra and the reason I like it full panoramic roof it's like a convertable
Also in topaz yellow which is a lime green sort of colour so really stands out

Would I replace it with a type R
Not sure as the Nismo and Subaru ticks my fun cars but if I only had one car then yes

I have a hankering to import a JDM EP3 for my next daily driver.

Hi. I owned a 57 plate Type R FN2 before I bought my Scoob. As Shrek said, it's probably the best all-round car I've ever owned, and I often regret selling it. It had the black GP kit front and back, which is very rare and really set it apart from other Type Rs. I sold it for basically the same money that I paid for it. I had literally dozens of calls every day - easiest car I've ever sold.


Both the gear box and clutch were amazing and tight - made it a pleasure to drive. The handling was incredible, no mods required. Light, go-kart, pin-sharp steering. People say they have no torque, but it overtook very easily when in the VTEC zone. And when the five LEDs light up as the revs get higher, it's pretty cool. A different feel to a turbo but still a buzz nonetheless. Ultra reliable engine. I had the standard 18" wheels. The ride was very harsh, and would be even more so with the 19" RAGE wheels. Lovely interior - practical, great layout of buttons and controls, very futuristic looking dash, good standard stereo/speakers, massive glovebox and cavernous boot, seats fold completely flat, really comfortable Alcantara bucket seats, big red Start button.


Engine sounds great in VTEC. Really quiet in cabin, especially on long journeys. It's the only car I've ever owned where I got the claimed mpg (31) on a daily basis. Obviously if you drive in the VTEC zone much, it will be considerably less, but on motorway journeys when just kept at 75mph in 6th gear, it's easy to get 42mpg+... seriously!


Downsides are: harsh ride; really wide wing mirrors make an already wide car even wider - not good for narrow country lanes; if you fold the front seats forward to access the rear, the seats reset to their default setting, so you have to p!ss about getting them back to how you want them - don't know why Honda didn't sort this out!; massive blind spots from front pillars when cornering; poor rear visibility due to the positioning of the spoiler.


I think that's it really. I tend not to buy the same car twice, but I would definitely consider another Type R. However, the harshness of the ride - considering the crap country tracks I have to navigate to get to work - would probably be the deal breaker. I'm planning on taking the new model for a test drive as soon as possible, though. Who knows! :norty:

Thing is im in a quandry here . Being a site manager for a school, i live on site so no travelling cost . As i said , the uk2000 ive got really does need a lot doing to it. If it had been a Ram or a JDM STI, id plough cash into it, but its just not worth it. Love scoobs , hence looking at blobs , but like Mr.Creepy, dont like buying same car twice .Just dont know what to do:
