Apple car play

I fitted a Pioneer Apple Car Play headunit yesterday and it's awesome.

You loose the ability to play cd's but seeing as all my music in now on my phone it makes good sense.

Google maps works like a sat nav and is very accurate with the included gps antenna.

Also can send and receive texts via voice activation, make receive calls, audio streaming with album art ect.

Its like having a tablet in the dash so far I'm very impressed...

Can you use you phones 3G data ?

InTurbo 23 May 2015 08:57 PM

Yes I believe so. It's comes up at the top of the screen saying 3G/4G
Forgot to mention it also has a spotfiy app.

Yardz 23 May 2015 09:05 PM

I have the same head unit and I love it.
Very fluid and easy to use. However it could do with a firm ware update. On ios7 you could use dash command and had more app capability I have a DAB app that works very well though.
The fact you can use mirror link for android devices is pretty awesome.
I have thought about the reverse camera too

InTurbo 23 May 2015 09:09 PM

Yeah I would like to add the reverse camera. What dab radio app are you using?

Scooby Wagon 23 May 2015 09:13 PM

Guess radio plays like a conventional car radio through the cars radio aerial?

Been thinking about 1 of these for a while :)

Yeah still plays conventional radio, plenty of USB ports too. I spent years with cables adaptors, fag lighter sockets trying to integrate my iPhone's but this is turn it on plug it in done totally seamless.

Did you need to buy something for it to work with iPhone 5? Been looking on amazon at 1 of these for a few days but it says i need to buy a adaptor for it to work with the 5?:brickwall

Cannon Fodder 24 May 2015 08:01 PM

These are great units, I've had one for a while and the integration is fantastic.

No all you need to usb lead supplied with your iPhone, if you wish to use the mirror link and pioneer app radio app you'll need the hdmi kit

BurningSky 25 May 2015 09:28 AM

I generally use TomTom on my phone for nav, does MirrorLink mean that you could get that app to show on the screen? I was looking at the Parrot one because that can get the app itself but if MirrorLink works that way then that's even better.

+1 for dash command I'd be happy with that, the only thing I miss is a volume knob, can be fiddley trying to turn music down in a hurry. Nice unit though.

Nope I have my iPhone 6 plunged in using the everything provided in the box. You can either use bluetooth or use your I phone 5 cable to plug into the usb connection provided. I installed it into my centre console storage box.

Still prefer a physical option then I can keep my eyes on the road.

Had the chance to have more of a play around with it today. And found another nice feature.
You can customise the start up screen to any picture you like when you turn your ignition on.

FYI, screen protectors are available off eBay, a few quid for 6, from Germany but didn't take long to come.

Will it do screen mirroring? I have the TomTom app and would prefer to use that or 'Nav Free' over Apple maps any day of the week.

I'm pretty sure it's not compatible with CarPlay as yet, there isn't a great deal what is. Not sure about app radio mode as I don't have it.

It's a app that should be able to work with CarPlay, like a few others (DASH COMMAND!!), but I suppose they have to work with Apple to get it on there.

Yeah it will do, I don't have much data on my phone contact but when I renew in a few months il be getting as much as I can to make use of apps like that and "tune in" radio, I think spotify would be worth a go as well.

mikescooby 07 June 2015 05:51 PM

Moving from a 4s plus having the cable for the 4s i do use dashcommand and now have a 6 its rather expensive to change cable to the lightening adapter. Is dashcommand included in the car play. If not i will use the 4s cable and buy the converter adapter and see if it works that way
