My new Type R pics & planned upgrades thread
Hi all,
I have been a member on scoobynet for a while now & having owned a number of Subarus I thought I will share with you guys my latest purchase and plans I have for it. After owning a number of Subarus over time & last two also being Type R a Ver 3 & a Ver 5. I visited the dark side for a short while with an Evo was a great car but nothing compared to a Subaru. So I started searching for a descent Type R to buy, after a few weeks a pal of mine told me about this Ver 4 what his mate had owned over the last 12 years & had spent a fair bit maintaining/upgrading. I was after a fairly standard one but this one had a fair few mods, now that's the boring introduction part over, I will write some of the spec & plans for you guys to read. No doubt I will be needing your expertise & help some where along the line with this. SPEC: Forged engine by Autosportif, Race/Rally specialists. Semi closed deck block Cosworth 92.5mm pistons Cosworth steel conrods Steel head gaskets by lateral performance ARP head stud & nut kit by lateral performance ACL main/big end bearings Roger Clark modified oil pump Roger Clark baffled sump Port/polished cylinder heads Lightweight pulley set Run on Millers 10w 60 fully synthetic oil MD321H hybrid turbo Roger Clark GT spec equal length headers Revolution performamce 3" Mid pipe Revolution performance 4.5" slash cut back box Scooby Clinic front mount intercooler HKS mushroom air filter Forge recirculating valve by RCM Mocal 19 row front mounted oil cooler 850ml Oil catch can with breather fitted Tufnol inlet spacer kit Samco coolant hoses with 1.3 bar rad cap Nismo 740cc injectors with adaptor kit by lateral performance Uprated in tank Bosch fuel pump Parallel fuel mod Fuel lab Fuel pressure reg with gauge 5 speed dccd gearbox Helix performance 6 puck paddle clutch kit Motul racing gear oil Motec M48 ECU Magnecor competition HT leads Knock link system fitted DEFI, Oil Temp, Oil Pressure, Boost gauges with recorder Carbon front strut brace Alloy wishbones Whiteline anti lift kit Whiteline adjustable rear arb White line solid drop links Poly bushed throughout Bilstein B16 PSS9 coil over suspension kit Fast road geo set up 17x8 Rota Force alloys 215.45.17 Federal Rsr tyres Rays lightweight wheel nuts Prodrive Alcon 330mm big brake kit Ferodo brake pads all round Goodridge braided lines all round AP racing 5.1 fluid Car makes 405hp at 1.4/1.5 bar & is mapped by Bob Rawle http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps7tt6kcij.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...pswujeshjd.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...psdqv603wl.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...psow43lk1p.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps8rojijnt.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...psumll406q.jpg Now as for the upgrades I wanted abit more power so me and my good friend Banny & a few other lads discussed a few options & the following is what we came up with & I set about sourcing these parts ASAP UPGRADES: JDM 6 speed gearbox Pref DCCD To run Redline or Titan gear oil ACT or Exedy clutch kit Garett GT30 billet with 0.63Ar RCM rotated kit Tial 44m external waste gate RCM or K&N big cone air filter To buy all necessary joining hoses etc Alloy radiator with twin slim line fans Cooling panel 2 pot Brembo rear callipers to replace Subaru 2 pots Whiteline adjustable front arb Rear 3 point strut brace Underbody H brace Rear diff brace 3 port boost solenoid to be sourced & fitted before mapping, yet to decide on a mapper of choice will be keeping the Motec ecu system but will be going mafless with anti lag / launch control, switchable maps and a few other options added in. Now on the exterior looks car will be staying pretty much OE. To be added are: Black mud flaps STI decals on fog covers V-Limited front splitter Maybe a grill in front of FMIC May also give the front windows a slight tint That seems to be pretty much it for now I will update when parts start arriving & when we get to work on this car. The gearbox clutch turbo etc have been removed a few days ago so the fun part of countless hours searching/sourcing parts is on the go full effect. |

So on the way to shopping today I noticed a new graphics place local to me, I popped in had a chat with the chap & asked him to make me a set of STI fog light cover decals, after showing him the design on-line & colour I wanted they was done within 15mins and looked as they should well pleased :)
Also received delivery of my ZeroSports cooling panel today, along with a V-limited style STI splitter supplied by Aero D Auto or as some may know him under the name KAS35RSTI on here, good item with fast delivery highly recommended he supplies all models and designs so its bang on. http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...psebhayc6s.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...pswhbapih9.jpg I received a phone call last night from a pal who has a JDM DCCD box available, So currently in the process of making a deal on that if all goes well I will have it at some point this week update to follow. |
Nice, thought you sourced a dccd box?
|
Looks well bro, hope it comes together like a bo55 :)

If it's difficult I will just get garage to fit them as wouldn't want to ruin the bonnet. |

Did you fit your ones bro, if so what tools required and how easy or difficult was it?
If it's difficult I will just get garage to fit them as wouldn't want to ruin the bonnet. I bought a dremel for it, I'm pretty confident of doing it myself tbh and also helps doing it on the carbon bonnet. |
A little update :)
Collected the 6 speed gearbox set up. Gearbox has 77750 KMH so works out just over 48K Miles Car has 54K Miles, So easy to remember for future reference It is a JDM DCCD box from a 2004 Blobeye STI It comes with the Suretrac front LSD Package consisted off the following: X1 Gearbox X1 Prop shaft X1 R180 3.9 rear diff X1 Pair heavy duty front drive shafts X1 Gear selector mechanism with gear knob X1 Clutch cylinder X1 Clutch fork & pin I was told that you can run a 5 speed starter motor with 6 speed conversions, but then later came to understand in order to do this you need to keep a 5 speed flywheel, but I had a 6 speed flywheel so had to purchase a 6 speed starter motor. I also ordered the uprated gear linkage bush kit from AS Performance what should arrive this week, & upon recommendation from a friend on order is Millers 75w 90 NT competition oil from OPIE-OILS This stuff is also used in sequential boxes so should be more than good enough. http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps5tvmqjuz.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps0kua3ctb.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...psmtv656mh.jpg |

Regards, Subaru Collector 555. Cheers Tim :) lol @ "Hanji" spec Maz, that will have a few people baffled. Thanks Subaru Collector we do hope so. Received the gearbox oil from Opie Oils. Also received the Uprated gear linkage bush kit from Alyn, These bushes are Cnc machined from solid nylon & are designed to get rid of the play in the shifter, so it's a good simple mod if you want precise on point gear shifts. I had some free time on my hands so I set about giving the rear diff a quick clean, I sprayed some Gunk degreaser on it & let it settle for around 15 minutes, I then simply wiped it down using every day household detol wet wipes. I was surprised as to how good it started coming out with such simple cleaning method, if I spend an hour on it I could have it immaculate. The Gunk stuff worked well, if any of you guys want to try it out then the name is Gunk green multi purpose degreaser and cleaner, and can be purchased from Halfords for only £6.99 a litre. If you scroll up & look at my previous pictures you will see the difference. http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...psxjg4yqzc.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...psih1oyko9.jpg Managed to source a GT3076R from John at Spool Motorsport Developments. GT30 Billet 0.63 Hot side John had this turbo available but was 0.82 exhaust housing which I did not require, So a Stainless steel V-Band fitment 0.63 exhaust housing was fitted pics below. http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...pswlgzjm51.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...pspjecsvst.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...psnav0hfoz.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...psa0qe7oxd.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...psg4ilxet8.jpg |
Also have received delivery on my 260mm K&N filter with alloy trumpet supplied by Alley Motorsport superb service with fast delivery from these guys.
Along with 101mm Silicone connecting hose supplied by ASH Hoses. http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...pse9wlctzm.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...psdffvzuus.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...pswisbba1t.jpg |

Update:
Managed to get hold off a RCM rotated kit with a 44m Tial external waste gate, bonus being it has already been Ceramic coated. It was supplied by Russell of BHP Developments or as some may know him on here under the user name Wuz, great guy everything was as described with rapid delivery well pleased & highly recommended him to any one!! The downpipe is a 4 bolt fitment atm, where as my turbo is a V band so I have ordered a V band kit online & will be dropping the kit off to a local welders to get it changed, may also go for a screamer pipe but that is not final yet, will update with the results.. http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...psbijpgvbo.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...psuznudlyp.jpg |
Very nice brother will look even better now u got race car bits on it from the b055 :)
