Rear brakes
 

Hi. Looking for to upgrade my p1 rear brakes. After some 2 pots. Also need new hubs on both sides! Is there a kit I can get hold of so I can get the full lot? Cheers Chris

If you need new hubs as well get 2003 wrx 290mm rear brakes and hubs these are a direct fit so you don't need conversion brackets and you keep the backing plate. I did this on my p1 it worked very well, a worthwhile upgrade. Have you got the Alcon fronts?

Turns out I don't need the hubs aswell, I'd been told the wrong information from the garage. Although that's option sounds like an easy upgrade, I might look into it. The only thing is the backing plates are screwed so they need changing, really corroded! I have hi specs on the front 335mm discs. But they also need new pads and discs!

If you want to use the conversion brackets you have to drill the backing plate off anyway (only the dust guard bit that surrounds the disc, as new discs are bigger and will rub if Not removed), again use the 290mm discs and 2 pots off a 2003 wrx (or any other model with same rear brakes). If the backing plate is corroded behind where the brake shoes fit (mine was), then it would probably be easier (and cheaper) to fit the later hubs complete, as the hubs would have to come off to fit a new backing plate which you would then have to modify anyway.

Found some Subaru disks and calipers on eBay, would just need to buy the adapter brackets, people are saying I don't need backing plates? What do you think ? And I've looked into buying the hubs but it seems like unnecessary cost, I can't find a set so would have to buy everything seperate

Changing the hubs is a long winded , expensive way of doing it , we can supply you the bracket kit for £50 delivered , which fits straight onto your hubs , and the calipers bolt straight to them , a very simple conversion.

You don't even need to take off the stone guard if you don't want to , just push it back slightly so the larger 290mm discs dont rub on the lip on the outer diameter of the guard , or you can grind through , or drill the spot welds and remove the stone guard which takes 5 mins to do.

We have plenty of these kits on the shelf for a next day delivery , it was me that designed this kit which everyone seems to have now copied

as Ian has said it's easier to use the conversion brackets, which I had on mine with no problems with the dust plates removed, the only reason I changed them on mine was the back plate was really corroded in where the brake shoe fits so needed changing and it was cheaper to buy new age hubs.

Ian I will give you a ring tomorrow and have a chat with you! Thanks for All the info! Just bought some calipers today so I'm one step further! N yeah I'm pleased the backing plates arnt going to be a problem, essentially I'd be cutting half of it off anyway !

Removed mine on advice from Ian, took all of five minutes with an electric drill, and another ten with a wire brush and some black Hammerite;)
