advice on new scooby ???
 

hi guys im looking at buying another scooby, i have £9k to spend.
i had a classic 2 years ago and loved it but want something a bit newer.
so im after a bit of advice from you guys on the best newage model 2003 onwards ie:- 2.5 or 2.0 etc. and what i need to look out for when viewing some etc. thanks and look forward to hearing some suggestions.

Should be able to get a nice tidy blobeye for that . From what i understand, if your not after big power 2.5 is good but some can be problematic cos of piston or ringland issues. If you do a search on here ,there will be a wealth of info and advice regarding the different power plants. Im hopefully going to be in the same situation soon , so ill be looking again

Although I'm not in the market as of yet, I've still been looking. I want to finish Uni before I take the plunge and so have been reading up and gathering as much information as I can before I buy one next year.

The 2.5's are notorious for failures, so I personally excluded any hawkeyes (2006 onwards) and am just looking at blobeyes which have the 2.0 engine and are supposedly better, though I will drive both when the time comes.

Still, don't let this put you off getting one, not all of them are tainted, and some will not cause you any problems, but it's better to have a heap of money in reserve just in case it does go. You could always get one and then get it forged for peace of mind.

The 2.5 will have more torque than the 2.0, but from what I've read, the consensus is that most people prefer the rev-hungry nature of the 2.0.

Also, there are a couple of threads about some garages that are not so friendly that you'll probably want to keep clear of.

The one car that I've looked at is http://www.pistonheads.com/classifie...k-2004/3887168 and I can't understand why it hasn't been sold yet. Unless it's a dodgy dealer I've missed, or there's something wrong? It has PPP, but I don't think it's a widetrack or DCCD? It doesn't say it is anyhow.

Blob STI's are really holding their price at the moment - even non widetrack versions are close to Hawk STI money. All due to the desirability of the 2.0 engine.

I'm in a similar boat - trying to weigh up if/what to buy...

Not a widetrack.
They only came on the blobs that are late '54 plate (2004) and 2005 plates, some are on an '06 too, i guess the ones that hadnt been sold yet and didnt get registered untill 2006.

Instant giveaway is that widetracks have a rear arch trim, non widetracks do not have this.
Also the centre dash and steering wheel is the same as the hawkeye model, and you will see DCCD switches next to the handbrake :thumb:

Ah thank you. I never would have known! So those switches on the pictures will be for the windows then?

Not too sure what those switches are, probably for the mirrors, as its the old centre console. Its a different/newer design in the widetrack versions.

Anything on an 04 plate or older will not be a widetrack version.

or get a jdm version with the 2l engine
