5 speed gearbox blast plates. lets have a chat

Recently I bought some of the Moore blast plates from the good old USA. With a focus on both good and bad reports the consensus was positive by circa 75%. Thought I'd have a look. My RA has a pretty precious gearbox i.m.o so in order to retain it as factory I thought it was worth a look.
400USD plus post and customs a set was on it's way to Ireland.
My story begins there.
A set of plates arrived and after some pillaging from our tax system I had them in hand. My initial thoughts were not good. The parts folded had cracked on the corners and frankly the welds were not great. I took them out to my very experienced mechanic to fit them to my gearbox. We together mounted them to a donor gearbox for a look. The principal and methodology behind the plates came to the point that , in principal, this could work. The reinforcement around the gear cluster actually made sense. Side by side with a 6 speed casing (regarded as invincible) the theory came to life. Bear in mind that a very skeptical WRC mechanic was involved. The consensus was that we could make a better product for a lot less money. Moore had obviously done the r and d so the onus was on us to improve the quality. I think that we have done that with superior welds and finish. Initially I ran 10 sets and tested the market within two of the largest owners clubs. They were sold out in under two weeks. Bottom line is this: £160 delivered anywhere in the UK as a complete kit. I will offer them within the sales section of the forum if required but thought I'd get all the bullcrap sorted first with this thread. I am not making outrageous claims. Simply stating that those I have manufactured are of much higher build quality than the original moore product. I understand there will be doubters and many replies by sheep that dont know better. Half the price with quality assured is all I can offer.

I'll take a set no problem fella.

So what are the claims and theory behind them? I have heard a little about them but it might help your cause to state it here in the thread for those of us that are less aware of their benefits.
Also what sort of bhp/torque are they proven at?

Some pictures would be good too.

Might be interested in a set myself.

I know someone who might want them for a track car
I will send them to this thread

Seems to stop the flex in the 5 speed box, from what I have read it could be a reason the 5 speed is fragile & strips gears - flex under strain causing gears not to mesh correctly.

I wonder can anyone verify if this is the cause of the 5 speed weakness?

I'll take a set please

I have the cash sat here and will take a set ASAP mate. Just would like to see some pics first.

As for the amount of power/torque they can take.... there is no way to test that. If you put them on a car running 500ft/lb and it lasts for 1000 miles does that mean they are rated ok at that torque? Or would the box have lasted that long without them? Similarly if you whack them on an abused or worn box at standard torque and the box goes would you then conclude that they don't work? There is no reliable way to test them without massive investment in test boxes and probably very expensive high tech measuring equipment. So you either believe the theory and buy them.... or don't. :)

I have heard about them but just not heard much about cars using them and at what sort of power level, was just trying to get more info really as the op doesn't say anything much about the theory. :)

I'd take a set

Money sent thanks.

FMJ 11 May 2015 11:16 PM

Purchased. :-)

FMJ 13 May 2015 11:36 AM

Received :) Look well built and like a good deal to me :D Quick delivery too. I will be fitting mine to a box that has been removed from the car. I just have to degrease the box and clean it up a bit then will whack them on.

Tidgy 13 May 2015 12:40 PM

so what is the actual idea of these, to stop parts being ejected when the box lets go?

Stop the box / gearset flexing under load so keeping the gears meshed properly to try and help stop them stripping.

Google is your friend. :D

hmmmm, wanna send me a free set to try in my type r box when engine build is finished? hahahaha

Start a project thread then so we can see what you're up to.

Tempted to knock a set up myself TBH, might do when I pull the engine out to do a few bits. :norty:
