Minor Win7 issues, advice please
 

I'm hoping someone on here can offer some advice about a couple of minor issues I'm having with my PC running windows 7 pro.

1) How do I get web page shortcuts on the desktop to open full screen?

2) As far as I'm aware I have set up the power preferences as I have any other pc, i.e. screen off after 10 minutes, sleep after 30mins or when the sleep buttong is pressed. But it doesn't stay asleep and wakes up anything between 10 and 30 minutes later. If I elect to use hibernate instead of sleep, it goes off completely and needs to fully reboot.

Minor issues as I say, but any help would be appreciated.

1) You don't say what browser you're using. If it's IE you can edit the registry:

regedit > HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main and locate FullScreen entry it should be "no", you can swich it to "yes".

2) Check your bios settings to see if hibernate it supported/configured and whether Wake On LAN is activated. You can check what's waking it from an elevated command prompt and entering powercfg - lastwake

I'll have a go with your advice.

You just need to create a shortcut on the desktop with the following command:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -k "www.bbc.co.uk"

www.bbc.co.uk is obviously an example, just replace it with your desired website. The "-k" switch puts IE in full screen mode for that shortcut. IE will remain "windows" for all other shortcuts/links.

With regards to PC waking up, make sure you have settings for USB not to wake up the PC or have a background process that might wake it up. For example, depending on the USB setting, clicking on the mouse can often wake the PC.

Yes. Or you can create a new shortcut on the desktop (right click anywhere on the desktop, click New > Shortcut)
Then just simply copy and paste the command in my post into the dialog box when prompted. Replace the www.bbc.co.uk with your own url link. Job done! :thumb:

ps. This assumes your IE program is located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\.
