Tyre size on 1994 JDM WRX on 16s?
Hello all, just bought a 1994 JDM impreza with gold 16 inch wheels. Would appreciate some help please. I used to have a Hawkeye Spec D but I know nothing about classics.
It needs new tyres. The current ones are 205 55 R16. Is this the correct size? Searching pulls up different answers, the side walls look slightly too wide to me. Thanks in advance. |
Yep, that's what was on my classic when new.
BUT: I quickly went 17" when I discovered that the above is a pretty rare size, and so quite expensive. In fact, a set of 17's and new Toyos only cost me £75 more than the old wheels were going to cost for tyres, and I sold the 16's for 3100 anyway, so win-win. |
Cheers. When you went to 17s, did you get a lower profile tyre to maintain the correct rolling radius?

205/50/16 are widely available although will cause the speedometer to over-read slightly.
|
I thought 205/50/16 was correct anyway?
|
That was my original question :lol1:

205-55-R16's are correct. Toyo Proxes available for under £300 for a set of 4.

When I moved to 17" I went for 215/45/17. Car fealt much better than 215/40/17

Don't know if this link will help out.
http://www.type-ra.com/subaru-impreza-my95-wrx-type-ra/ This is for the 95 Type RA's, i think the sti's were the same with 205/50/16. |
my 1998 facelift uk classic had 16" wrx wheels and 205/50/16 tyres

Confusing mix of answers here, but many thanks for the replies. Im non the wiser so Im going to continue on my barely legal ditch-finders.

Ha, its written on the poxy car! Inside drivers door frame, beneath the latch there is a metal plate. I learned this by reading the manual. Doh!
For anyone else, on 16s it takes 205/50/16r |
