How to map recent purchase with Simtek ECU

Hi,

I've just bought a car fitted with an STI V3 engine and Simtek ECU.

Having previously installed megasquirt and mapped it myself on my TVR, Im Hoping to do some of the mapping on the scooby myself. I'd also like to log realtime data and display the data on a display in the car.

Can anyone offer any advice on where to start with this.

The first thing you need to establish is whether it's actually a SimTek ecu or an Alcatek ecu which was previously called SimTek.
A quick glance at the board should tell you this.

If it has a serial number starting E1S97. then it's an Alcatek.

If you have an Alcatek ecu then you can buy the software from them, you will need the original tuner to send you the map in it or acquire a "base map" from another dealer so you can start from scratch.
JTI sell a display known as Toucan that can interface directly with an AlcaTek ecu and that will allow you real time monitoring as you drive.

Up until january 2012 Simtek ecu's were supplied by AlcaTek, subsequently Simpson Motorsport who badged the Alcatek as theirs changed horses and sourced from Gems, so as Martyn mentioned its important to establish which you have.
