What going on with prices?
Been browsing the market as a friend is looking for a newage sti and the prices seem to be going up, especially if you have a chavved up wrx.
What is driving the prices up? It seems if you want to double the value of your car just add a graphics kit, sti bits and a large scoop of BS :cuckoo: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Subaru-Imp...item4d306b3901 |
Could buy a genuine STI with 6 speed brembos and the rest of the toys for less then that.

Thats my point, this isnt the 1st WRX i've seen for way over STI money but its getting more common.
Even 14 years old bugs and 12 year old standard blobs are getting bids over 4k, I've never seen the market like it and the ruined ones seem to go for more! |
Ruined is all in the eye of the beholder though.
|
The entry point for a wrx is so much lower then an sti alot of people buy the wrx and mod them with sti parts, naturally sti's will get rarer and prices will rise.
My own bug wagon started as a wrx purely as bug sti wagons are like hens teeth. My wrx has now had the full sti conversion after I bought an sti as a donor car. It seems to be the way of the world at the moment. more people are buying cheap and modding instead of waiting saving and buying an STI or other highly modded car straight off the bat. |
I think 'young-uns' buy them as they're probably cheaper to insure. So a WRX tarted up like a Halfords Ram Raid is the holy grail.
|
Lower fuel prices have certainly helped drive the price of these cars up recently too.
Cheers, Melly |
Prices are on the rise for good ones without a doubt...it's about time as most of the decent one over here tend to get bought by European buyers as prices out there are waaaay more than here ;)
|
I will be advertising my JDM STI 2001 shortly if your friend is interested, I am based in Grimsby. There are some pictures of it and its spec in my SN details.

Check out the STI snobbery on this thread! :D
May be I have should have accepted the offer I had on my 2005 WRX last month. :thumb: It is all about availability and quality. And as some of you have pointed out, good ones, whether it be a WRX or STI, are proving hard to find. I have seen perfectly good cars being stripped for parts because they were worth more that way. That merry-go-round was only going to keep turning for so long. |
That one doesn't look that bad to be fair, but why the hell would you bother with all those mods on the standard TD04?
Maybe the Collins dump valve will add a few extra BHP. :D |
In all fairness i have seen a lot worse for sale at a lot more money obiously its not worth over 5 grand and putting sti bits on does not make it an sti. I hate the way people list them as sti in for sale sections too

Here you go braaah! Cheap as when the engine goes.

It's still running the rear factory diff :wonder: Says Pinocchio :thumb: |
And it pulls like a train.:thumb:

My dads selling his proper 51 plate sti in october, given it was rebuilt 10k miles ago i recon going by those figures it must be aroudn the 8-10k mark,,,, hahaha

I thought we'd seen the end of the chaved up Impreza in recent years, but there seems to be a whole new generation of idiots who have come from somewhere.
It's just bizarre the way that SIOC stickered up and huge vented cars are paraded and then worshipped by the other members  Doesn't bother me though - just means the cherished cars will become fewer and worth more. |
Like the comment about the Halfords Ram Raid https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/lol1.gif
I also think that for those of us who have keepers with subtle mods or are taking the OEM+ route in the proper sense of the phrase, that the supply of unmolested cars will dry up - especially on classics and pre 2002. Market definitely up for the best condition with good provenance cars |
have to agree. im going to be selling mine soon and looking at whats available for under 4k im seriously rethinking my price point for my bug wrx
|
the more this happens, the happier i am.
same thing as happened with sapphire cosworths. they were expensive - then they got cheap - then everybody started breaking them because they were worth more in bits, then there were less available, (particularly good ones), then the prices shot up. also happened with series 1 rs turbos. good news for a bloke with a slightly tatty 1993 import wrx that is still visually standard, and only slightly tuned methinks! :) |

The prices have dropped so far that they are now worth more in parts. Hence why you see a lot of the trade breakers stripping perfectly good cars. This will have the effect of pushing up the prices of the remaining decent cars. Same happened with the E36 M3 market.
Can't explain the prices of the badly modded/stuck on tat ones though. In the age of the internet, you'd think that everyone would fully research cars before buying them. It appears though that there are still many people that just want bling and image, rather than substance. |
Dracula is up for grabs, very reasonably priced.
