Uprated calipers with wrx wheels
When I brake (hard) my wrx hawkeye wagon pulls to the left side, so I think I have a caliper sticking on the front right. I would like to keep the original wrx wheels and am considering the following options.
1. Uprated brakes with spacers - what thickness would I need, would the car still be legal, and would this damage the wheel bearings? 2. Are there any uprated calipers that fit under the standard wheels? 3. Referb on the standard calipers - how much would this cost? Thanks very much |
Probably the usual sticky pistons at work here. You can get a rebuild kit for not too much cash and rebuild them yourself, or have Godspeed or the likes rebuild them for you. A bolt on upgrade would be Brembo calipers and discs from the STI model. They should fit under newage 17" alloy wheels without any issues.

Thanks. I thought for the Brembo calipers I would have to change my wheels from the standard wrx ones?

You will definitely need to change wheels if you put brembo calipers on. V7 sti wheels (5x100) will bolt straight on.

Thanks 54, Do you know of any uprated calipers that will fit under the standard hawkeye wheels?

Maybe AP 4 pot calipers will fit under standard wheels but they can cost twice as much as Brembo calipers. If you aren't wanting to change wheels, you should put your money in to refurbishing your own calipers and buying decent discs and pads suited to how you use your car.

Check out godspeed offers, got an offer on AP6 pots for about £1250, pretty sure they go under wrx wheels (ask ian) and about as good as you can buy. By the time you have bought the brembos and wheels your gonna be up towards that figure anyway.
Or a set of SCR 6 pots will go under wrx wheels as well iirc o 17's will take 330mm disks and caliper setup by the way I;ve got these on my classic but they are under 17's, http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...ps47945eb1.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...ps85eb066e.jpg |

Hi Winston,
Just a tip I have Ians 335mm which I used NDX blue , these work well from cold and I find ideal for street . But if you track you will find better Pads ask Ian to advise and throw the pad set in with the Caliper option you eventually go for. |
