Opened up a Impreza ECU non turbo and have and found this?

Anyone got any idea's?

I seen one of those for sale somewhere recently (eBay?) that looks exactly like that one (is it the same one?) and it was listed as a "rare test ECU". No idea what it does over its normal functions though.
