Which amp would you recommend?

I have a hertz SPL 380 Sub and I'm lost on which amp to purchas to power this. Id only want to power the sub single channel not the speakers also.

Here's the spec:

got a JBL GT5-A3001(I think) which would suit your needs bang on.

don't joking jbl has 300W rms at 1ohm
ive got pioneer d9601- 1200W rms in one ohm , class d monoblock (1-ohm stability, not many have it and if so are expensive)
Your sub max is 1000W rms at 1ohm i guess,
You need to know how much voltage on rca gives Your headunit and match it on amp. for sub (gain) or do it other way
set up lpf on 80hz or 63 job done

There are plenty of amps that will run at 1ohm, you can also run your sub at 4ohm and get good results but will also depend on your choice of enclosure.
Amp choice will depend a lot on how much you want to spend and if you are happy to go 2nd hand or not.

Been told for maximum performance will need to run 2000 rms at 1 ohm, I'm not looking to set car alarms off so a good amp at 1200rms at 1ohm will do the trick if anyone has one id be interested

Show me then -plenty of them for 150quid with 1.2kW stability at 1 ohm.(where i lost You i wrote other are expensive)
For what You go 4ohm with lower rms from sub which has possibilty to run 1ohm.
Read sub. description its 1000Wmax rms than its probably at 1ohm, then not really You need 2000W amp. which will cost arm and leg.

If I want to run the sub at its full potential it would cost between £900 to £1300!! Thats what I was quoted oucha!!

I said I just want a decent sound and was quoted around £400 to run it at 1200rms

Nope lost me again I'm afraid, my grasp of the modern English language is obviously lacking.

If you want some serious advice on amps to suit your sub then I would suggest trying talkaudio as I mentioned.

Not setting off car alarms and yet having a 15" sub with 1.2k amp.......are not always compatible :lol1:


As has been said, you can run the sub at 4ohms, 1ohm or 2 x 2ohm. The lower the ohms, the more potential power and therefore the harder/louder the sub can be driven. As it's 15", you'll need a fair amount of power to get it moving. Decide what music you listen to and how loud you want the bass to go.


There are a pair of Spl Dynamics Ice-3500D amps in the classifieds on Talkaudio. They'll run 700w @ 4ohms, 1300w @ 2ohms and 2200w @ 1ohm. £200 each.
