Blobeye WRX front bumper - Saloon vs Wagon

Morning chaps. Am I correct in thinking that the blobeye saloon front bumper is slightly different to the wagon? (assuming due to saloon being a smidge wider).

Therefore, to fit a saloon bumper to my wagon, I'd need saloon wings too?

I'm asking, as I could do with replacing my wagon bumper and I've been offered a saloon one...

fat-thomas 16 March 2015 09:42 AM

Yes due to different wings

casasteve 16 March 2015 09:54 AM

OK, as I thought. Thanks for the info :)

riiidaa 16 March 2015 12:40 PM

get the saloon wings, ;)

casasteve 16 March 2015 12:47 PM

I'd love to! Budget is kind of tight right now. I've been offered the bumper (with fog lights included - one of mine is cracked so another bonus) for £40. It's in the right colour too (O2C). If I could find wings cheap enough in the right colour I'd probably do it, as mine have some stone chipping and my bumper is scabby.

MattyB in the breakers section

riiidaa 16 March 2015 12:51 PM

btw rip the guys arm off for the bumper and lamps, even if you have to store it and bide your time

casasteve 16 March 2015 12:54 PM

Means a 200 mile round trip. Worth it?

casasteve 16 March 2015 12:55 PM

Also, sorry for the questions, but if I did do the wing swap, will my wheels looks a bit silly (not being as wide as a saloon) or will it not be that noticeable? I have the stock WRX 17's with the 55mm offset or whatever it is.

riiidaa 16 March 2015 01:14 PM

silly is not the right word, it'd be ok

The bumper without the lamps is about double (going rate) in used but good nick.

riiidaa 16 March 2015 01:16 PM

To do it without 'making do' you'd probably want the arch liners too

casasteve 16 March 2015 01:27 PM

That's a very good point. I actually could do with replacing the passenger side liner as one of the mounts is damaged.

OK, I'm waiting on some better photos to make a final decision. Thanks again for all the advice/info :)

riiidaa 16 March 2015 01:29 PM

just seen that guy is local to me lol

casasteve 16 March 2015 01:36 PM

And he's sold it already! That's what I get for procrastinating ;)

riiidaa 16 March 2015 01:46 PM

Ah well, at least you have a plan now, bargains do pop up if you're vigilant mate.

Ste333 17 March 2015 01:26 PM

oooo interesting read. I didn't know that the saloon bumper was a smidge wider...... its something I'm contemplating for my blob wagon too.

With saloon wings and bumper you would need large spacers or wider wheels otherwise the wrx wheels would look lost, but that depends on your own taste I guess. Mine has 18x8.5 et35 with 225/40/18 tyres, but also have coilovers to adjust the arch height too, plus I rolled the rear arches.
When I put my stock wrx winter wheels on I have to use 25mm spacers on the front and could do with more.

Swapping bumper and wings over is very easy.

Ste333 17 March 2015 04:33 PM

looks nice mate, are those STI wings, or just WRX wings?

casasteve 17 March 2015 05:57 PM

That looks very tidy. Any difference between the STI wings and WRX?

FFForester 17 March 2015 08:38 PM

They are sti wings and bumper. got them from Mattybr@MBdevelopments on here.

Sorry not 100% sure if there is any difference in sti and wrx wings but I thought they were the same.

I spotted that too. I was confused by front and rear "skin" though. I have no idea what that means.

BLU 18 March 2015 04:50 PM

Bumper skin means just the plastic part, Theres a metal bar behind that the 'skin' (read bumper!) mounts to!

No difference in wings WRX or STi (although some seller would have you believe there was!) the only difference is wagon or saloon!

casasteve 18 March 2015 05:39 PM

Oh right, so essentially bumper skin and slam panel. Right. I'd always just called the plastic (skin) the bumper.

Learn something every day :)

BLU 19 March 2015 07:46 PM

Yeah, "bumper skin" and "bumper bar" (and clips) make up the complete bumper :)

Hi there

As above you will need front bumper and wings from the saloon if you want to use saloon bumper on yours wagon, you don't need anything else although inner arch linners from saloon I would suggest you buy as wagon doesn't fit saloon wings

And yes will definitely can change front appearance, just bit of advice, get better wheels as OE WRX wheels will never look good on the wagon with saloon wings, you can try to use wheel spacers

But here are few pictures of our wagon

Can you use just the wings from a saloon on a wagon of does it have to be both wings and bumper

Ste333 10 July 2015 09:07 AM

I believe both mate as the wings are designed to accomodate a wider bumper

casasteve 10 July 2015 10:29 AM

Yes. The saloon bumper is slightly wider to fit the wider arches. The flair on the saloon arches makes the bumper slightly different too.

So yeah, you need saloon bumper and wings to convert a wagon.
