rear diff temp light..

ok im new here so please be gentle with me
just recently purchased my second ever scoob a hawkeye 06 sti
after a long driv the R DIFF TEMP light started flashing on and off and now is stuck on when I move the car but ges out when static

first thought was to add a bit more oil to the diff however I whipped the plug off and the level is perfectly fine.

ive searched google etc to see if anyone has had the same sort of probem but have come up with nothing

personally I would rule out a dodgy sensor as surly it would stay on permanently

anyone have any advice for me before I take it to a garage ??

Check the terminal is free of corrosion on sensor and cable is not damaged going in to terminal that plugs on to sensor

Terminal looks food as i had it disconnected today when I checked the diff level.. at first sight the cable looks good too but I will have another good look tomorrow.. hope I can sort this as I hate paying garages for work haha

i had this a few days ago, turns out its the earth wire to the top right hand side of the diff, you need to unplug it and wire brush the corosion of the contacts (trace the wire up slightly) the reason its only on when your driving is that the diff produces a little bit of power whilst moving. guarantee that is your problem..... any questions just ask

So after a few rainy days the su if ally came out to play and i could get underneath to have a look turns out it was the earth all covered in crud and corrosion... wire brush fixed it instantly... thanks for the steer Chris
