Track Car Update
It had its first outing last weekend.
The upshot Plenty of power. Braking Good. Handling is pretty good but need improvement A big thanks to Matty, Yam and the lads at MBdevelopments for the sponsorship and all the work they put into the car top job. Also a big thanks to Ray at Silverline oils for sponsorship and general help with the car. Silverline is a very high quality performance oil The Surrey Subaru Specialists engine is still going strong. I kick the c**p out of it and it doesn't use a drop of oil. Thanks to Dan and SMG. I would like to... but No.
That is an old 2012 sunstrip. Nice car with a great spec though. :thumb: |

If you did you'd have to get a new cage.
Nice car with a great spec though. :thumb: I did this project in exactly the way I tell people not to lol :) I didnt start with a bare shell. But took an existing standard car and slowly altered it. If I did it again I would put in a weld in cage into a bare shell and definately have it running through the dash. But what I have now suits my purposes as I have no time for the commitment you need for something like time attack :( |
Couple of vids
My good friend having fun with me tailing him |

A few pics from the May bank holiday.
The car went well. Seemed to handle better the RSRs are now very worn and more slick like, the track was warmer and I manged to get more heat into the tyres so it didn't handle too bad. Broken headlight and a minor oil leak was the only battle damage after a hard day A pic and a bit of video from a lovely Sierra Cosworth Texaco BTCC car that was following me. Attachment 48325 |
Very nice Steve. Like it.

Hi Matty buddy
I was just about to message you actually Not sure when I can come up and stay. But we will sort something That trip to Chevron is the only major thing that it really needs 6 speed is getting tired now...will need a refurb at somepoint. I am hoping it will make it to the winter. Anyway we can chat tomorrow. Real pleased to see you got the beast up and running again and out and about :thumb: (As it is easy to lose heart with huge projects like yours sometimes) |
Very nice, any engine bay pics?
Rich |
Thanks Rich - I will try and post something. I think I have a pic.
But it is nothing special. Dirty and with masking tape marking certain hoses ect. I think the main things that are not done. Is that there is no reverse inlet, ABS is still in place and battery is not relocated to the boot. Over and above that is is what you would expect to see from a car in this state of tune. I will post a pic or two up though :) |
Its the larger air intake I'm keen to see. I may need something less restrictive than I have just now as my new turbo is looking for more air ;)
Any idea what power you are achieving with the T+? Thanks Rich |

Any idea what power you are achieving with the T+? Thanks Rich It is an old pic, so a bit has changed but it gives you an idea. It is not that clear I am afraid. The intake is a Large KN cone filter attached to a RCM trumpet fed by a large direct cold airfeed. This seems to be the best route to take Attachment 48215 This T+ is very close/similar to a MD321V. It has a very aggressive actuator on it. It also has a matching Harvey up pipe. (In Harveys words he used to treat the car like it was his own and spent a lot of time fiddling with it) The engine is high compression and alot of time was spent getting the machining right to match the internal components. We only need to run 1.6 bar through it. Power wise. Duncans bum dyno, my bum dyno and a few others. On V power - it has a very aggressive 480-490hp ish feel to it. That is our gut feel powerwise. This turbo has been on two forged engines that have let go. One in a huge way and it is still going strong. It was checked by Lateral themselves and given a clean bill of health. So I am big fan of the MD series, very strong and delivers the goods. Perhaps some others these days are cheaper perhaps some others these days are better. But an MD in my experience does what it says on the tin and lasts. Hope this helps Steve |
Hi Steve, thanks a lot for the info.
I may need to go mafless in order to get a larger filter in that part of the engine bay. I thought my restriction was the 90 degree bend where the PAS reservoir sits against the intake hose. I have since changed my PAS to a newage setup so the reservoir sits elsewhere now so that the intake hose is not squashed in by it. But if you are getting enough air flow in past yours then it may be my MAF that is maxxing out or the air filter is just not large enough (too restrictive). Cheers Rich |

Found it :)
You are on from 7.40 through to about 9.00 |
Thanks Steve, this is what Subaru ownership is all about!

Yes I love Lydden Hill
Andy Banham and Jules agree It is a little last bit of old school England. Basic rules, marshals and saftey and then you are just left to get on with it and battle it out with people, within reason. Obviously we all want to go home with our cars intact. Most other places are so tight and up themselves, I find it all a bit wet behind the ears and a little dull. I feel very lucky to live near it. Are you coming over for the August track session? |
I would love to attend but I have a couple of scooby dates in august, 8th Im at Bruntingthorpe and on the 10th Im at Curborough. If theres anything left of the car I might see if I squeeze another day in. Compared to Brands and MSV days Lydden is a breath of fresh air. The driving at Lydden is far more competetive, you can be all over the car in front of you and no one seems to get over. Once I got my head round this it was all good fun
|
I haven't been up to Bruntingthorpe for ages, I did some training up there with Don Palmer years back. Despite being very good friends with Matty, I have never put a car on to Curborough, despite it being his local. Have a good time mate
All the best Steve |
Must get down to Lydden once my 6 speed is fitted :)
Some great footage there Steve, car looks awesome! |
