Apples Watch and stuff
So whats the view then, I've been looking at them, 330 quid is for the sport version, i presume the internals are all the same, i can't justify 500 for a shiny metal one, batt life is suspect still at the claimed 18 that means any kind of hammer prob looking at 9.
New MAC BOOK looks sexy in Gold, they have gone for lightness as opposed to power , not too up on that new processor but its for work and no games i guess, not even as powerful as the AIR by the looks. Like the Apple TV price drop will be buying a few of them now I'm slowly converting my gear to Mp4 |
I've always said I'll go in low, space black ally with a black strap, very Swatch. I suspect I'll use it more than I think, then would love the Black Stainless next time. The battery life will have been stated conservatively, it's 72 hours of just telling the time. As with my phone I'll be charging daily and hope they do a dual socket charger.
The Macbook is an engineering feat, as you've said it's probably not fast enough for me to use as a work tool but I'm also probably kidding myself as I'm sat here using a 2008 iMac. |
I'm both an apple fan and I do like my watches, having a lot of the former gear and having spent too much on the latter, however:-
HOW F*CKING MUCH!?!?!? £820 to £860 for the all steel version is taking the piss. There are a lot of very nice watches out there for £900. Assuming the internals are the same, Apple recon the sapphire crystal (you'd thnk Apple had just discovered it) and steel case is worth £170 extra? Ouch.. Wife and I were both in the market for one, but its going to be hard to justify it at that pricing. |
You can get stainless steel for £479, which is still a chunk of change but it's not £820. If the price of the straps put you off then buy an adaptor, already available, and buy your own.
|
I wish this one was £500 but straps are bloody expensive, not just Apple straps.

Caught that on reddit, pretty funny.

Just to balance things out, the new MacBooks are really cheap, £2!

think the watch uses a dock jack, some passive affair....hence the weird underside it has..
|
It's a new style magsafe connector, must be USB on the other end.
|
I'm guessing everyone's super happy that Apple are leading the charge, get it, on USB-C, that's got to be good in the long run but it's not magsafe and anyone that had their arse saved by it in the past is going to miss it.

That bloke needs to take some proper exercise , never mind what his watch gadget is telling him

I see two outcomes: 1) They are planning to release USB-C cables that have a magnetic clasp somewhere through their length. Downside here is that non-Apple customers will buy them for use on non-Apple devices, and one of the Macbook USP's fades. 2) They're planning something else for MagSafe - but their challenge will be to maintain compatibility. I wish they'd done a Tesla on this one and opened up the patent to everyone - would have been a hell of a PR coup. |

Must admit that's the one Apple invention I really, really wish was more readily available.

I meant the magsafe part of it - pretty sure Apple own the patent on that bit of tech.
|
Kind of, Surface has a magnetic connection too.
|
Hmm, good point - should have remembered that as I (well, the wife) owns one.
Did they license it perhaps? |
I doubt it, I expected every manufacturer to adopt magnetic connections, no idea why they didn't I doubt you could patent it.
|
MagSafe works similarly to the magnetic power connectors that many deep fryers and Japanese countertop cooking appliances from the early 2000s have in order to avoid spilling their dangerously hot contents.[2]

I shall be looking to get a nano coating for it methinks. |
At least I am consistent, as I think all the smartwatches are ****, people who buy them are mugs haha

I think the watches are a waste of time, I got the galaxy gear neo bought for me for xmas and I don't think I have worn it once. I even tried an activity tracker and stopped using that after 7 days as it was a pain wearing it all the time.
|
I have the Omate. I have stopped using it even though it would last 2 days and be full stand alone device. I hear apple watches can last as little as 3 hrs if you use it as a phone! Waste of time and money
