Best air induction kit for 2008 STi Hatch

Currently running a HKS mushroom green system, but think this is holding back the breathing at higher RPM (engine fully forged)
Currently running 340Bhp and 400lbft torque, power curve shows significant drop off in the higher rev range - so I'd like to replace the current system with a better performing/breathing system:
Cost not really an option as they are all relatively similar, so which would be the best model to go for? and is a short RAM system better than a cold air intake system which drops into the wheel arch area (water ingress ??)

K&N Typhoon?
Perrin?
AEM?
Cosworth?

constructive advice welcome with some info why?
I know it will require another remap following install.

Thanks

AEM You wont go far wrong. Had one on my hatch for 7 years, always performed brilliantly

AudiMan 12 March 2015 09:29 AM

Cheers guys

Rob - is it best to go with unit that drops into the wheel arch area? or one of the shorter units which sits in the space where the old air box was? I was thinking of running a couple of air intake pipes up from the fog light areas

Thanks

The AEM Drops into the wheel arch and draws colder air from in there rather than drawing hot air from the engine bay/ I had mine in there for years and performed excellently

Do you need to remap a standard Sti hatch if I wanted to fit aem induction kit? Want the noise but don't want to upset anything. Completely standard apart from cobra cat back.

Want the noise without the remap cost.

Cheers

Why not fit back the standard airbox, they are good up to 400bhp.

adamobie1 30 May 2015 09:02 AM

Anyone? Any advice appreciated?

Don't want to fit the aem kit and cause engine damage

Thanks

I have a new Mishimoto cold air kit if you'd like it. I think it is the Red version. £200 delivered

Another here for the Perrin. Love it on my blob

I'm told without a remap it's a no no on induction kit. That's from scoobyclinic and power station. £660 for a remap plus buying an induction kit for a sucking noise! Can't warrant it on a work car!

Mishimoto say no remap is required for their kit. Just saying. If you are promoting remaps a full ashtray is the required modification limit. Or winter over summer. what car could possibly survive the change in intake temps. Oh wait?? Every other car on the planet.

adamobie1 31 May 2015 11:59 AM

Hi,
Just watched the vid links on YouTube and they say the car after fitting needs tuning/re calibrating. Isn't that a remap? Just don't want to melt Pistons etc for a noise. Don't get me wrong an induction kit sounds awesome, but can't warrant a remap. Just going on info from power station and scoobyclinic.

Any help is appreciated.

Have u any pics of the mishimoto that your selling? Why aren't you using it etc etc.

Thanks all

Unless you are watching a different video than I it states the standard tune does not need modified. I was intending to buy an 08 car and bought the cak perhaps a little premature. My point is this: between the hottest day in summer and the coldest day in winter a standard factory car can cope without a remap. But dare ye fit a cold air kit regardless of season you will need a re map. I call bull****. I am currently running my January map in almost June!

adamobie1 31 May 2015 06:08 PM

I fully get where your coming from, just going on tuning companies advice, I don't understand it either. But when your told 2008 imprezas are poorly mapped as standard and the map as standard can cause piston failure, messing with stock sounds risky. All I'm after is honesty to get the best out of my car without costing the earth/rebuild.

Want the noise to be honest, that's all

Any help or advice is good

Ordinarily I'd agree on anything up to hawk. But the box changed as did the filter assy. they use one type filter for every model now, quite restrictive in comparison

K & N Typhoon get the thumbs up from me

Anyone running an ARK induction kit? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ARK-Design...item58c2645284

I'm about to get my car back after engine rebuild and am looking at the options!

domino46 06 June 2015 07:33 AM

Selling this induction kit off my sti hatch , sorry the pic isn't great ,, sits in the wing and worked fine at 397bhp but with wanting 500+ I needed to go bigger so it's now not being used ,, just needs a new K&N for the end as iv reused the one it had , the maf in the pic does not come with it
