Peace of mind that you have it written down by a engineer when you might have to go to court, Personally I would rather take someone who knows there stuff about Impreza's(maybe someone who lives close to CP on here that could have a look;)) Other then that you take your chances, but looking at some of the threads over the internet from this company I wouldn't have much faith if anything went wrong, as the old saying goes "Guaranteed until you leave the drive"

Might do that, alternatively get an independent report on it and if it is a dog I'll have a good reason to push for my deposit back. If the report is all good then.... all is good right?!

Might be just the camera angle but the boot doesn't seem to sit right,out of line or is it me being too picky? Just have a really good look around it and if in any doubt then walk away,sounds like your going to do just that.

As much as scoobynet hate them and what they have done to people I would guess :D

Not every car is bad they sell!

They just have a reputation of buying bad cars and reselling them as bad cars and not picking up the repair bills!

Hopefully yours will be a good one! But I would request an extended test drive and get it checked over :)

As for the deposit, I feel I was really pushed into making a quick decision without adequate time to make an informed choice. As such, I feel like an embarrassed idiot. I'll explain why.....

I originally went to view a couple of Focus ST's that they had in. I'd done a bit of research on various cars including the Impreza's but decided against the Scooby's, until I'd seen this one in the flesh today. The salesman (young fella, about 25-26) was very helpful and seemed very knowledgable. We talked about it for a while and I asked if I could take it for a quick test drive and he was happy to oblige. Given it was at the back of the lockup it was going to take a some time to move all the cars in front of it so I disappeared to McDonalds with the wife and returned an hour later ready to jump in it....

To our horror, someone else was looking at the vehicle and sat in the drivers seat (hang on, I was supposed to be driving it now!). The salesman apologies and says we have first say on it should they want it too. The wife and I wait in the office patiently and then see it driving off the forecourt?! Must have been going for a test drive in it. Really feeling quite worried at that point that it's going to be sold before I even drive it.

Anyway, it returns less than 10 mins later and the guy gets out of it and comes into the office. We pass him on the way out, jump in the Scooby and head off for a quick test drive.

At this point 305bhp seems to mess with your senses and all I was thinking is "gotta have it gotta have it".

We return to the garage, jump out and hear the salesman talking amongst each other. Apparently the first test driver has offered £500 over the asking price and is willing to pay cash there and then. They say that I still have first refusal at this point as I was the first there - I agreed to pay £500 deposit. The other test driver apparently leaves his phone number should I decide against it.

Reading this now makes me feel stupid. Was this just a hoax to get me to commit to it?! I guess I'll find out tomorrow. Should they refuse to refund my deposit then I'll be confident they were taking me for a mug. On the other hand, if they do refund it (why wouldn't they, they've got a cash buyer who's willing to pay over the asking price for it ?!) then Cheshire Performance, sorry for doubting you, but you need to fix your reputation!

But a white sti is a really Rare car, so it is possible, but could highly have been a sales tactic

Anyway I would personally request a extended test drive and go get it checked out, if they refuse to give you one then they should have no issues with handing your deposit back as then the blame falls to them

Besides, they closed an hour after I paid the deposit. I'll ring them first thing tomorrow to withdraw my interest. So technically it's only been off the market for minutes, not even hours. No loss to them then eh?

I would say it is a con in to getting you to buy it, to which it had slightly worked as you paid a deposit. I would contact your bank first thing in the morning and stop any money going out of your account for the sum of £500 (hoping they haven't already taken it) I would then contact the garage and tell them you have changed your mind and have bought a similar one for £2000 less elsewhere :D
Also read the small print on your receipt to see if you can get your deposit back if you change your mind :thumb:

After reading the suspicious car sales tactics then I very much doubt that any light has been seen lol

Sounds like a sales tactic if I'm honest. My job is to train sales people both field and telephone based and it really really does sound like they have set that up. Because you left for an hour it gives the company time to set something like that up.

now I personally hope that this is not something that they have done, but if they have someone who is willing to pay 500 more than you and is standing right there... It makes no sense to sell it to you!

very true, they are there to make money and someone offering more than advertised is going to get the car imo..there is no way they will say hold on while I ask another buyer if he wants it at the asking price first. as above mate try and stop any payment being made from your bank asap..then contact Cheshire and tell them you don't want it anymore..

Unfortunately there is no way to stop my debit card payment going though. Its as good as giving them cash. (I work for a bank, boooo hissss)

It will still be in your account but won't be showing as it will depend on who the merchant bank they use and how often then settle up the account. Some only do it once a week other better ones like sage pay (elavon) do it daily, but there is no way of them stopping the payment either which sucks royally.

Call them first thing in the morning really polite and just say that you have decided against it based on the feedback and reputation that they have.

I'm sure they have used that tactic in the past

I'm afraid you will struggle to get your deposit back so you could maybe plead for say £400 back and a hundred for inconvience you caused

But I'm sure cp are reading this thread now and laughing

Feel for you buddy but don't feel stupid you made a decision based on what was put in front of you these guys seem to be con men and have probably do this before. Fair play to you for having the guts to tell everyone else about your experience and hopefully you can stop someone else being conned.
