TD05 16G Top Feed to Front Feed

Hi everyone.

Just picked up a TD05 16g for my98 Terzo, unfortunately, it's a top feed housing.

I know I can quite easily have the inlet cut off and re-welded but my question whether the new front feed housings I see on eBay are a straightforward swap or do they have to be balanced or some such other issue?

Thanks. :notworthy

I cut and welded mine as I couldn't find a new housing that would be a straight swap (I think). It certainly cost me less to cut and weld it. That's the first route I'd go if I was you.

Yes, I think I will anyway.

I got the Turbo for £50 off ebay and a guy where I work said he could cut it and weld FOC.

Was just thinking of doing an overhaul of the turbo using one of the kits on eBay and contemplating swapping the housing instead of cutting/ welding.

Thanks for the reply.

I did all the cutting and prep work and a fella in my wife's work welded it for free. I also got mine for £50. I bought a bearing/seal repair kit and rebuilt the cartridge while I was at it, think it cost me £20 or so. I marked the compressor wheel, shaft and nut for reassembly. £70 for what's basically a new turbo, sweet!

Just watch a step by step video for stripping down, cleaning and rebuilding with one of those kits. Looks pretty easy, think I'll do the same thing.

What are your thoughts on the 16g as compared to the td04?

Where did you get the rebuild kit from, I have opened up a TD05 also, want to rebuild it and swap it with the one's on my car right now, because it is starting to slowly covered in an oil film.

eBay. About £30.

I haven't fitted it to the car yet but as for the quality of the eBay rebuild kit I'm very impressed :)

Looking forward to installing it soon and mapping the car (again). There should be a pretty big difference.

td05-16g is heaps more fun than a TD04 - Enjoy :)

I can't do that due to intercooler pipework :(
