Type R STi Version 6 - Work in progress
I thought I'd get a thread going for my new car. I've had my V5 Type R Ltd locked up indoors under a blanket now for 2 years. The plan for that one is to give it to my son when he’s old enough (5 right now).
So I wanted another for daily duties, and the odd track day. I did the deal on this Type R. http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps48173b4f.jpg I was worried when I first got it, but so far I haven't found anything too dodgy. It is a credit to its previous owner :) It needed mapping properly as the last mapping attempt was aborted on the rollers @ RCM due to alternator and boost solenoid giving up. The first thing I did was book in with Gary @ GR-Performance for a Dyno run and basic health check. He found the fuelling all over the place, but he was happy with the sound of the engine so a result for me :D http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/a...psa0e8312a.jpg http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps0b21d184.jpg  So I parked it up in my tiny garage and commuted 19 miles a day on my bike till mapping :( I would have been happy for Gary @ GR-Performance to do the mapping, but due to distance and past very positive experiences with Duncan RaceDynamix I booked in for his earliest slot. Only driving when I had to: http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/a...pse1908046.jpg The first thing I changed was the momo wheel for a Sparco: http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps4cda84aa.jpg Then I booked in with Tim @ Trilogy in Stalybridge for an improved alarm system. He found an ingenious hiding place for the siren to avoid cluttering up the engine bay  http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps2e8540cc.jpg I can not recommend Tim highly enough. Rare to find these days, a proper enthausiast, who's an expert in his field and still down to earth. Trilogy: Car audio & alarm installation Peel Street, Stalybridge, Cheshire SK15 1PT 0161 303 9818 Not a fan of the 22B bumper (unless it's on a 22B) or the carbon bonnet, both were sold and standard items bought. To get the standard items I had to go and visit a man who literally made me cry for days.......... Brian from Cams Performance. He bought my old Blob :cry::cry: But you have to forgive and forget :D He did a cracking deal on a bonnet and grill, and I also picked up my bumper from there. He has some awesome machinery and the biggest parts collection I’ve ever seen. Another top man who I will definitely be back to for anything I can't manage myself :) http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/a...psdfe6eda2.jpg http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/a...psfe182d40.jpg Before mapping I had a long list of things I'd like to do, so collected a few parts: http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps5a99b5db.jpg I spent hours faffing about switching the tiny Mishimoto (great quality btw) I/C core for the nice new Hybrid one, and at the same time swapping bumpers. http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps72ac341b.jpg http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps8c2b2afa.jpg http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/a...psb2eamwb6.jpg When I was finally done, I noticed a tiny coolant leak on the hard pipe that runs along the radiator  I called Brian @ Cams Performance and he told me to come down as he was sure he’d have one somewhere. After a few minutes searching, the nicest one he could find was on his 700 BHP MK1 Escort (with full Subaru running gear). So he whipped it off and gave it to me :luxhello: What a nice guy. http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps4cb08cfc.jpg http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/a...pse95362ba.jpg Next was the fuel filter, currently a tiny billet Torques one. Having had past bad experience with a similar style filter, I swapped it for a standard one: http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/a...psd80eed71.jpg http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps93ae6c51.jpg Next I changed the up-pipe for a Harvey/AS Performance Trick one. I advised Alyn I was using a Lateral Performance Billet MD321 18G and he said I was in the middle in terms of choice of up-pipes. As it is more a daily driver than track car, we agreed to go for the one which was most suitable :) More great service from the Subaru community, with a new up-pipe along with OEM gaskets delivered next day by Alyn from AS Performance at a very good price along with plenty of great advice  http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/a...psf68c943d.jpg Does the RH S20 004 mean anything to anyone??? I also had my GrpN Engine mounts ready to go on if needed, but the original mounts looked in great condition so I’ll save the GrpN bits for my boys Type R Ltd :) I also changed the plugs for some NGK BCPR7ES. With the fuelling all over the place, the old plugs were looking well past their best. I wanted to do a few other things before mapping but due to time restraints and the up-pipe and plugs taking 5 hours :o I went to bed looking forward to meeting Duncan in the morning :) Mapping went much better than expected, started off with a boost pipe blowing off. Duncan beet me to it when racing for our ratchets. With all clamps tightened we went back out for some more. I was expecting Duncan to tell me I’d bought a lemon, but to the contrary he was very happy with everything. He said it sounded like a built engine to him but everything was fine. He was really happy with the turbo, saying it was holding 1.5 bar all the way to redline. I requested to keep things as safe as possible; he said he was happy to push it further but I was worrying about the 5 speed box. Another bonus was to find out that the Alcatek already had L/C and Anti Lag enabled :) L/C is not much use on a 5 speed box, and Anti Lag isn’t really my thing, but if it’s already there then nice to scare the kids every now and then  The eBay supplier I used to buy a Innovate Wideband sent the wrong one, so when Duncan comes round next time I’ll have some switches ready for him for A/L and L/C and also the correct wideband and controller. He estimated a very safe 350 ~ 360 BHP so happy days for me :luxhello: The current spec: 2.0 STi Engine - From the old ABW race car Nitrided crank, STi internals. new piston rings with Cosworth head gaskets V5/V6 heads Baffled Sump Lightweight Pulley set Advanced Automotive O Ring Thermal inlet manifold sapcers 550cc top feed injectors (blue) matched from Lateral Performance CDF top feed kit Parallel Braided fuel rails Sytec Motorsport FPR RCM Fuel pump Hybrid FMIC with HKS hard pipes Brand New Alternator MD321 18G Billet Lateral Performance Perrin Turbo Blanket 3 Port boost solenoid RCM Oil catch tank with return to sump RCM Exhaust and de-cat centre section HKS bell mouth downpipe heat rapped Pipercross cone filter with Mafless pipe As Performance Trick Up-Pipe Alcatek ECU with Anti Lag & L/C (not wired yet) Mapped by Duncan RaceDynmaix STI Grp N fly wheel Excedy clutch DCCD 5 speed gearbox Meister R Zeta R Coilovers Brembo brakes front and rear, std rear disc and performance friction Floating Disc fronts Eibach anti-roll bars front and rear Hard Race Trailing arm & Lateral links set CDF Drop Links front & rear Wheels XXR 527 17" x 8.25" ET 25 in bronze Yokohama Advan Neova AD08 HT Autos 22b body kit Flocked Dash and gauge pod Sparco Deep Dish Wheel Lots to do, next is paint and underseal, then geometry :D |

The Mishimoto intercooler sold on eBay, it's packed up ready to head out to the Isle of Wight today :) |
liking that, just out of curiosity how much does he charge for full wraps?

This Z4 was much cheaper due to the material used and shape of the car: BMW Z4 Oracal Violet Metallic Wrap |
Ah k. pondered on getting this done to mine eventualy as a cheaper alternative to respray. wont be for a while yet, engine to sort first lol

Any pictures of your other type r, I believe it's my old one :wonder:

you've done a top job on this, would never guess it was the same car from that original ebay ad!! Getting it wrapped was an inspired choice as well and it looks great, nice work!

Would you believe I drove it back from yours, drove it for a couple of days and since then it's not turned a wheel. It's been tucked away indoors under a blanket. Well over 2 years now, I've bought plenty of parts for it, all original stuff and plan to keep it for my son when he's a little older. Your pictures were/are awesome so no new ones. I do need to pull my finger out and turn it over, it's been a while now.

I've had a very tempting offer on a swap, just need to decide to follow my head or heart....... |

No noticeable difference tbh. Next plans are to fit a Dump Valve, wideband and get her on the dyno. |
Awesome work!
Just when i'd gone off the idea of wrapping my car you go and change my mind!!! :) |
I went to GR Performance today to meet Duncan Race Dynamix for a dyno run and also get the anti lag turned on.
For their nice and early but the guy before me was having some troubles with suspected dodgy FPR/pump/injectors.... While waiting, James from GR Performance kindly made me a stainless connector so I could fit a Forge DV to my HKS charge pipe. Nice healthy 360 BHP with another clean bill of health from Duncan. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...eaddf1a005.jpg DV https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...444c9bb039.jpg 360 |
