Limits of STD Intercooler?

Hello,

What is the limits you can run on the standard V4 intercoolers? I would prefer someone with experience to answer.

So far i had 320bhp on my car. this was achieved with a VF28 at 1.4bar (1.5-1.6 bar initial spike) and standard v4 intercooler.

Car still runs like the day of the map 6 months later.

Changeing now for VF35: fact : I don't think i will make more power as injectors are maxing out already. So vf35 will be more for the less lag, more torque and a much larger powerband.

Can I still keep the standard intercooler? I don't really have time to addapt a newage STI ic, and quite frankly buying a decent V4 STI ic for £90 of from ebay is bunkars.

Kind Regards

Why would you want to run anything to its limit ???
In my experience over specing is the way forward as it allows you a safe zone and scope to go further if you decide.
I'd advise changing your intercooler for a larger more efficient one and also fitting larger injectors or at the very least a FPR.

@Matty thanks. yes i know what would be the best. but at the same time, if you chase power you will never stop spending in your car.

for me is just about getting the car work safely again between the 320 bhp area. Concern reason would have been the extra heat from the bigger turbo. Not sure what would happen if i keep it on there. I can live with a -10 bhp . not racing it. Just wanted to see if other people ran the standard intercoolers at high pressure and if they popped or not.

One of the specialist once told me they did a test on temps with standard intercoolers and the classic one had very high temps at 300 and over, I would go front mount for the time effort and peace of mind. :thumb:
