Uk Turbo 2000 Hesitation

Hi folks, got a 2000 plate uk turbo 2000 which is holding back threw boost, engine CEL is on flashing code 22 which I belive I knock sensor? Would this cause this issue? Thanks all

ossett2k2 15 February 2015 08:45 AM

Yes 22 faulty knock sensor will cause issues

scooby_impreza 15 February 2015 09:06 AM

Thanks for the reply, feels like a pretty big power loss so hopefully changing knock sensor should fix the issue Then.
Another quick question, can my car be remapped, it has a Y7 ecu. Thanks

Yes I do believe the post 1999 cars can be mapped. Check out the ecutek Site.

My knock sensor was causing big power issues too, replacing it and resetting the ECU made a huge difference.

Thanks for all the info guys! Where is the knock sensor located?? Thanks again!

It's a tricky one. If you have a top intercooler I'd imagine it's gotta come off first, I don't so I can access mine easily enough. You'll need a 12mm socket and some various extension bars to reach it. It's at the rear of the engine slightly right of centre down behind the intake manifold. On my V3/4 engine it's nearly directly below the idle air valve. There's plenty of threads on it and loads of photos on Google.

Cheers guys! When I plug in the 2 black connectors under the steering collum it shows the fault code, when I connect the 2 green connectors with the 2 black still connected to clear fault codes the engine light just keeps showing the fault code? Any idea why. Thanks

piehole1983 15 February 2015 11:47 AM

Have you replaced the sensor yet? If not, it'll just keep coming back I'd have thought.

scooby_impreza 15 February 2015 12:02 PM

Yes sensor is replaced just cant clear codes, thanks

When the 2 black and 2 green connectors are together I turn ignition on at check engine light is solid, soon as I start the car engine light goes off and it starts showing the fault code?

Have you followed the reset procedure correctly? You don't just plug them together to clear the error codes and they are stored until you reset.

scooby_impreza 15 February 2015 01:21 PM

Yes followed procedure by driving car etc but it just keeps flashing the engine code

ossett2k2 15 February 2015 01:30 PM

I'm sure you have this info and have followed it correctly but I have posted just too be sure. If it's still showing 22 knock sensor then perhaps it's the wiring that's faulty? You might have to get a mechanic(preferably Subaru specialist) to get it looked at. Unless anyone else has suggestions?

Ensure engine is at normal operating temperature, turn engine off
Locate the two ECU connectors, located under the steering column and consist of a black plastic male and female connector, and a green male female connector
With the ignition OFF connect black to black and green to green.
Turn on ignition, do not start the engine, depress the accelerator pedal to full throttle, then return it to the half-throttle position and hold for a few seconds, and then release
Engine Check lamp turns on
Start engine and then drive for at least one minute, keeping road speed above 11 Km/h.
ECU is now re-set.
At this point the check engine light should start to flash the all clear signal (steady 1/2 second interval flashes). If the check engine light does not flash, or indicates some other sequence, there is a fault present in the system, and should be professionally checked for necessary repairs.
Stop the car and turn off the engine.
Disconnect the black and green connectors.
Job complete

piehole1983 15 February 2015 03:30 PM

Disconnect the battery and leave it off overnight, might do the job. Sounds like you haven't followed the reset procedure just right though.
