OK, so which battery?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yuasa-12v-...item339ab85227

These are almost £100 at Halfords, their top of the range.

http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Su...c91a216&000020

From European car parts. THEIR top of the range.

Both 65Ah, the Yuasa is 550Amp, the Exide 580.
Yuasa guaranteed five years, Exide four.

At £60 delivered the Yuasa looks a steal..........

looks like a new battery and decent trickle charger, see other thread.

Pramas 03 February 2015 06:20 PM

The Yuasa looks decent priced, ive just bought a Optima Red Top for £129 which is a great battery and if the halfords is £100 its not much more expensive either

alcazar 03 February 2015 06:33 PM

What's so good about the Optima ones? They are very dear, but only 50Ah and with only a two year guarantee?

Aaron1978 03 February 2015 06:35 PM

I've got this one, apparently made by Yuasa for Halfords.

http://www.halfords.com/motoring/bul...guarantee#tab3

alcazar 03 February 2015 06:40 PM

That was another choice.
But if I can REALLY get the one £20 dearer than that, with better specs, for £20 LESS.......No brainer?

Different internal structure, personally i dont use the car all that much and it is somtimes in the garage for a couple weeks at a time, the Optima i found tend to hold their charge very well and car started 1st time everytime.
They also tend to have a very high CCA at 730 and whilst this is by far the most important thing for a battery ive found them to be very reliable and used one for around 3-4 years in the old car before i sold it
Having said that you could buy 2 of the Yuasa for the price of an Optima, so you could buy 1 and when it runs out buy another and be in the same position

Aaron1978 03 February 2015 06:59 PM

Yeah I'd agree, I just bought that one as I wanted straight away. Also it's easier to take back if there are any problems. It was convenience really but it got really good reviews.

phsyo 03 February 2015 10:12 PM

The Yuasa Silver batteries are excellent - The engine turns over very quickly even in cold weather and when the car isn't used much.

Phsyo

jaygsi 03 February 2015 11:18 PM

Is this for your impreza?

The Trooper 1815 03 February 2015 11:18 PM

The equivalent Bosch Silver (5 years) is only £65 in COSTCO with VAT included.

jaygsi 03 February 2015 11:21 PM

I was just about to recommend Bosch lol

My impreza has been in garage for 3 months with alarm system on, only just gone flat, that's not bad at all.

b3nmw 04 February 2015 08:05 AM

I bought a silver bosch one from euro car parts, 4 year guarantee, £65.

Yes it is. Been SORN since last may, battery gone flat:(

And yes, the Bosch top one only has 4 year guarantee, as does the top Exide.

I'm also in the market for a new battery, as mine's getting a bit sluggish starting in the cold weather, so another option to add to your list:

CarParts4Less (owned by the same group as EuroCarParts but always cheaper!) also have the Exide Premium available for £74.99 delivered. They also have a £10 off any orders over £75 code at the moment, which seems to work with the £74.99 even though it's 1p out, bringing it down to £64.99 delivered.

[EDIT] - Just realised I forgot to include the £10 off code - CP10LESS

So:

Exide Premium 005:
Price: £64.99
Amp Hours: (Ah): 65Ah
Cold Cranking Amp: (CCA): 580CCA
Guarantee: 4 Years

Yuasa Silver YBX5005
Price: £60.00
Amp Hours: (Ah): 65Ah
Cold Cranking Amp: (CCA): 550CCA
Guarantee: 5 Years

I think I'm tempted by the Exide, for the extra CCA for £5 more...

Steve001 04 February 2015 02:10 PM

So no one has looked at my link?
£53.95 free delivery!

alcazar 04 February 2015 03:05 PM

Yeah, but for the Yuasa 3000, not the 5000 I've been looking at?

I think I'll go for the Yuasa, five years guarantee.

My bad :)

I bought the varta d47.
can find for less than 60 delivered.

alcazar 04 February 2015 07:24 PM

Only 60Ah......

Dibbles00 04 February 2015 07:52 PM

While ZEN Performance had my car, they fitted a new battery as every morning it would be totally dead. I remember Paul and Ren telling me that they were very good batteries. It's never failed once and it's been fitted for ages now. Just another thought for you.

It is a Banner battery.

alcazar 04 February 2015 09:32 PM

Looks good...but should at £101.42.......

And I can't find any mention of length of guarantee......

Found one at £149........four year guarantee.

I can have two and a half Yuasa batteries for that:eek:

And it's just the Calcium technology too, same as Exide and Yuasa.

Correct - £58 bargain for the quality / performance. 4 year warranty

urban 05 February 2015 08:27 AM

I'd go with Varta

Wow! I never even looked at the price of it as it was all thrown into the same invoice. Hopefully at that price it will last for a long time.
If I was buying the battery myself I probably would have gone for Bosch as that is a well known brand. I'd never even heard of Banner before, but now that I have I sometimes see their articulated lorries on our motorways.

Flat4x4-again 05 February 2015 09:45 AM

Varta = OEM battery suppliers to Volkswagen Group

jaygsi 05 February 2015 09:46 AM

Why don't you just recharge the battery you have?

alcazar 05 February 2015 11:39 AM

LOL.

1. My old charger gave up the ghost recently, so I need a new one.

2. The present battery is almost certainly fekked, it's not young, being the latest of two batteries on a nearly 17 year old car, plus it's probably deeply discharged now.

3. These modern chargers won't even "see" it under 4V apparently, which would mean adding a cheapo charger to my bill to get it to a voltage where the trickle charger could see it, then swapping to the trickle charger.....and it might refuse to hold charge anyway:(

ben.harris 05 February 2015 01:49 PM

I ordered the Exide Premium last night, but just thought you might like to know that whilst looking for a new catalyic converter for my brother's Lupo (which has just failed it's MOT badly on emissions), I came across the Yuasa Silver YBX5005 for £56.16 delivered from https://www.buypartsby.co.uk - so even cheaper still! :-)

reef67 05 February 2015 02:19 PM

I've got the previous Yuasa which has been superseded by the Silver, had it two years now cost around £50...has been excellent, car only usually comes out once a week.
