Tegiwa gear linkage bush well worth it
 

Hi all,

Not often I post to praise something but today I fitted a Tegiwa polyurethane gear linkage bush to my Hawk WRX..

I cannot believe how much this has improved the gear change, well worth £15 in my opinion! OEM bush is very soft. So much so I was able to push it out with just my fingers even in this cold weather.
It seems to eliminate most of the notchyness I had before.

My only worry is in the pictures I have seen there is a spring?! I could not see a spring on mine. Does the hawk have this? if so is it important?



Thinking about getting a brake stopper now.. Already have braided lines, uprated pads/discs etc. so next logical upgrade?

The spring goes between the UJ and the large bush and is there to center the gear stick. Got a Tegiwa brake stopper myself and it makes a nice difference on the classic don't know if you would get any benefit on a Hawk Wrx as I'm sure the bulk head is stronger?

How big a job is this to do?

I thought the same about the bulkhead... not sure though.


Cpt Jack, Not the hardest job in the world.. would be easier with 2 people though. (lots of moving between inside car and underneath it.
as the new bush is hard to push in you have to remove the whole assembly really. I unbolted the bush from the gearbox housing and and the UJ from the gear selector. Then the 4 bolts holding the assembly from inside the car under the gearstick gaiter.
lots of manoeuvring and it's out..
used a 10mm threaded bar and some old large washers to push the new bush in and then reassembled.
took me about 2 hours in total but sure i could do it much quicker if I had to do it again now I have done it once.

always been sceptical of tegiwa parts, they were constantly being slated on civiclife for poor quality and poor customer service. :(

Anyone fitted these to a 6 speed box? Any improvement in gear change?

Looks like you can get it cheaper from the manufacturer but not sure it will be worth it when you pay postage and possible import duty? maybe some group buys coming along? lol

I have done some googling and I am not sure the newage models have this spring? something about it being inside the gearbox now!? but I cannot find if this is on the WRX 5 speed or the STi 6 speed though.

Gear stick does not feel 'floppy' at all so thinking it is ok.
anyone know for sure?
