Type R rock hard brake pedal

Hi all,

I've recently bought a 2000 impreza type R and I have a problem with the brakes. 1/3 of the pedal travel is soft then the last 2/3 is rock hard yet not much happens. i'm a relatively big lad and I have to push right down to get even a little braking?
could this be:
Pads?
air in system?
Old fluid?
or is it just me being soft?

by the way it doesn't have ABS.

cheers Jay

Start looking at all your pads, if you have just purchased the car it's always a good decision to flush out all the old brake fluid for new for piece of mind and then you will know there is no air in the system. Check all the hoses and connections for leaks while your at it.

HI
Have a look at the front calipers as well , these are prone to sticking and seizing which will make the pedal feel hard
Does it feel like the servo is working
Cheers Ian

Never having felt a broken servo I couldn't say for definite but it doesn't feel like it's assisting much

Quick easy way to check servo, go to one of the bleed nipples on any calliper and see if it will pump through, do this with engine off. Don't know if you have a non return bleed kit or not but just make sure you don't let air into system while doing this. If your getting plenty fluid though while pumping the brakes it's not the servo.
