What's happened to my laptop?

Need some help here chaps, Google isn't offering any assistance..

The other day my laptop was impossible to use, turned it on to do some invoicing and the fan was running flat out and all the RAM was being used by something.

I hardly ever use my laptop, just for email on my web client and writing invoices. I don't download crap or anything. I don't even look at filth on it lol

I've been trying to sort it out, most of yesterday and it's still not right today. I defrag it etc regularly but it's like there's a virus.

I did an update yesterday (hadnt actually done one since new lol) which took 13 hours to do

One thing it keeps doing is opening a tab like you're going to send an email and the subject will have something to do with BBC. First one was something about The Kooks Tickets, just a minute ago there was something to do with Frank Lampard. Neither have I ever had any interest in.

When turning the laptop on yesterday I was getting a reg32svr error about kopmUjge. Can't find anything about that on Google either.

I was using AVG (I know) previously always used nod32 but didn't have the money to renew when I was off work with my back and just kept AVG ever since. I have downloaded kaspersky anti virus and just using windows firewall.

Kaspersky did find something yesterday and it dealt with it but the computer is still crazy slow and comes up with this email thing from nowhere :(

Try a windows system restore to a date before when it was working properly.

jameswrx 25 January 2015 12:41 PM

Does that negate the update?

Trouble is, not sure when to go back to. Could have been 'infected' for a year for all I know

A reg32svr error could very easily just be something that went wrong with the system update you tried to do, so restore to a point before that to start with and then see what's what.

Possible ram leak?

Also applications like google chrome can take up a lot of memory. I've uninstalled it from a machine that was suffering similar issues and it seems to be running ok at the min for what ever reason. The laptop in question was running windows 7 pro with 4GB ram.

The reg32svr error was coming up before the update.

I've kept this laptop sacred, never downloaded any crap and turned of all updates etc just to keep it running fast. Up until the other day it's been fine. I turned it on and it came up with the reg32svr error mentioned in my initial post and then it was just running flat out, not just slow but the mouse pointer would be 5 seconds behind and clicking anything would take ages.

I just want to know what the whole email opening thing is all about? I can't find anything on Google about it. It literally just brings up the email composing tab and has the 'subject' box is filled out. I haven't even opene the email program for a couple of months as I have webmail with my business hosting and email package.

use fsecure on-line scanner also try malwarebytes scanner

Download Kaspersky rescue disk 10, burn the ISO image to a disc and boot the computer from it. Run the full scan and see what it finds. I've used it a few times, great software and it's free!
