Supertech don't make valves specifically for v3/4 heads - can be done though.

bc0600 springs and retainers
bc2960 valve locks
supertech sivn-1016 inlet valves
supertech sevi-1016 inconel exhaust valves
Subaru shimless lifters

The lower seat is the problem - getting the correct installed height, with your preferred spring.
Contact Finch Motorsport - made these, in en24t.

Thanks 2pot that's a great bit of information I'll defo contact finch Motorsport tomorrow see if they can help ,getting a feeling this could get expensive now haha

You haven't got to have shimless lifters.
You could use standard locks.
BC0600 with titanium retainers £230ish or less, with steel retainers BC0600S

So I could keep the standard under bucket shim lifters ? Car won't be revving past 7k so would that fine ?

Main reason I want these valves is i plan on taking the car to 500-550hp and seen there is a potential the standard valves could crack even though there is cars out there with that power on standard heads I don't want to take the risk

2pot 30 December 2014 09:14 PM

What about over-revs due to missed shifts, and sticking it in the wrong gear?
I'd go shimless.
However, I wouldn't second guess Paul Finch's suggestion.

Grey Goose 30 December 2014 10:18 PM

Yes that is a good point actually I now remember a friends car that had 600+ engine when he sold it new owner over revved after wrong gear selected then complete destruction ,I'll see what options finch Motorsport can offer me thanks again

So out of curiosity what power can the v3 sti with the under bucket shim handle power wise then?

Apparently some has run to 550 and just over but there is a risk of the valves cracking ! so that won't be good however at what point they become a risk I don't know which is the reason I want to up rate

sti v3/4 standard intlet and exhaust valves are good for 500bhp .

Supertech do the valves but not springs etc, the last one I built I used Supertech valves with RCM uprated springs and std retainers, followers etc.

Supertech don't make replacement valves for v3/4.
You can re-purpose ej25 dohc non-turbo valves.
What seated valve pressures did you achieve, if you didn't use an extended lower seat?
Did you use the rcm435 springs? How much?
And are v3/4 valve locks the same as ej25?

Re springs and valve float.

I had issues with stock V2 WRX RA springs & under bucket shims, with approx 320 BHP @ approx 1.4 Bar max boost, >7350 RPM Ex valves would float and top hat shim would migrate from seat.

I have used Brian Crower BC1600 later springs with Finch Motorsport custom platforms on latest build. The BC1600 spring is pretty heavy, heavier than I wanted to go. I was looking for 7500 RPM (stock limit for V2 WRX RA) @ 350 BHP. So I opted for a custom spring platform that set the spring at less than the stock 36mm seat. I used 38mm seat which offered a heavier spring rate than the stock WRX RA spring, but less than the rated BC1600 spring.

This was hoping to allow for the 7500 RPM limit without valve float, while avoiding the loading of the valve train any more than necessary.

I have to say, the Finch Motorsport custom platforms where of the highest standard and Paul was very hepful and a joy to deal with, highly recommended.

All fitted great, car runs awesome, but yet to check the full potentiol of the selected spring rate @ full 7500 RPM.

Conversion of BC1600 spring with Finch Motorsport spring platforms highly recommended for V2 WRX RA shim under bucket (small top hat shims) where nothing else is available any longer for this set up AFAIK.

Thanks,

Jules.

My Supertech supplier had the valves which were the same dimensions as the V3/4 and I used all the std retainers and collets. I can't recall the exact info in the springs but they were from RCM, I think they may of been a bit longer than std springs? It was a few years ago when I built it.
