Over ear headphones
 

My daughter was after a cheap set today but I'm sick of paying for them so decided to get her some quality ones. We narrowed it down to Beats Studio, Beats MXR and Bose quiet comfort 25.

All sounded excellent but the Studios won it for comfort and noise cancelling. I have ear defenders for work and these are as good as those once over your ears.

I was that impressed I even bought a set for me as it has a microphone so I can use them with my Xbox :)

Ive got Bose QC3s; pretty impressive sound.

Looked at the beats but no way was I paying that for a pair of headphones so opted for the jvc xtreme xplosives, awsome for £40

As a (hobbyist) DJ and music lover, I find the hype around Beats products just silly. I've tried out a few pairs from their range and the price for the product is rubbish. I've tried them listening to vinyl, cd, MP3 etc, and where I'd tell an audible difference with Pioneer/Sennheiser/Technics headphones (popular brands amongst DJ's), the beats were meh... If they were 50 quid that's a different matter.

For the record I use a pair of Pioneer HDJ 2000 headphones for both DJ'ing and home listening. They're proper over ear headphones so do a lot of noise cancelling compared to other models in the range and other brands. I have small lugs and find them very comfortable, especially with the memory foam in the cups. At £250 they are expensive too but perform to the cost, which is why I invested in a pair compared to say the HDJ 500/1500 cheaper models they do.

Thing is due to advertising the Beats stuff is seen as 'cool' and 'in', which is why you see the school/college kids rocking them about proudly. Just a shame that the price takes advantage of this.

I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere that Dr Dre broke the all-time record last year for the highest annual earnings of anyone in the entertainment industry. Says it all really ;)

Have a look at the Audio Technica ATH M50 , they come in different colours.



I use a pair of ATH M50's myself, the Anniversary 50th Edition model. The sound from the ATH M50 is brilliant, great clarity and controlled bass, at around £100 you'll struggle to beat them as they sound far better than ones ive heard in the £200+ bracket.

I've listened to my mates Dr Dre over the head cans and i didn't rate the sound one bit, your paying for the name and the hype around them with footballers and film stars wearing them, as for sound you can do a lot better.

We actually listened to the more expensive Pro version but they sounded awful, the smile on my daughters face when I bought them for her was pretty big :)

I didn't mind the price so much as they were in a Boxing Day sale and I got them for £127 a pair and I'm pretty sure turtle beach head phones for gaming are near this price :D
