Steering Wheel Swap - Technical Help Needed
Hi
Newbie here! Sorry in advance if this question has already been answered but I couldn't find it. My other half owns a 02 WRX and the Momo Wheel is pretty shot so I bought a mint STI Wheel from a guy on here. When going to fit this on Friday found all the connections from the wheel to the clock spring to be different. My question is - are the clock springs interchangeable? I have found one from a 04 plate model which seems to have the right connections but I'm not sure if they can just be swapped over. I really don't want to get involved with cutting connectors on such an important safety item so for me it has to be plug and play. Any help would be great - thanks in advance |
I've swapped over a couple mate, both times found that all 4 screws don't quite line up so just put 3 in works fine and is secure no problem :thumb:

Hi Mate I did this on mine.
In some cases you will need the clock spring as the connectors vary. I have taken out the momo one and put in an STI Hawk one needed a new clock spring as the air bag adaptor was different. Cheers |

Cheers Thanks for your reply Yeah I thought as much, I was concerned that it may not be a straight swap (the clock spring) but from the earlier reply it looks as though it is - give or take a screw. That's my preferred option as I really don't want to go chopping up the wiring looms. Thanks Carl |
Hi Mate no worries at all.
The other thing to check when you do it is the depth of the spring for the indicators. Its a very basic facility but make sure its right and disconnect the battery so you don't set the airbag off. When starting the car also suggest you open all the doors and do it from outside the car. Better to be safe than sorry. PM me if you need any help happy to help Cheers |
