Type R V5 Ltd opinions?
Ive been speaking to the guy selling this and viewed it a few months ago, he says he will now take 9k for it.
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifie...engine/2933957 There are a few things which im not sure about with it though: 1. On Republic of Ireland plates so would need to be transferred but he says it used to be on UK plates before he bought it. 2. Carpet in the boot looked wet at one side but he said it was when some oil spilled out an oil can in the boot. 3. When its idling the revs go up and down slightly, not a lot but still does it. 4. Inside the engine bay has been painted the same as the body colour, I said to him that its usually a dull blue colour but he said he painted it the same colour as the body as its nicer when the bonnet is open at shows, not sure whether this is true or its had a bump at some time. It certainly looks mint in the flesh and the interior is like new, what do you guys think overall with it and the price? |
Who built the engine? Who mapped it?
Idle could be the maf sensor! Is the carpet wet or oily - surely you can tell the difference? |

Unsure who built the engine, he did say but nobody ive heard of, he says it was mapped in Dublin by a guy from here with surname of Simpson? The guy selling it says he used to work for Prodrive and now works for M Sport, the carpet was dry when I rubbed my hand over it but still unsure if its been wet and dried or if it really is an oil stain. |
"Used to work for prodrive".....lol....
The times I've heard that.. |
Sounds ominous to me, I would steer clear of it.
I purchased a E46 M3 from Northern Ireland once, turned out the history of the car had been totally falsified! Even though HPI checks were done and nothing showed up. When it went to my local BMW garage for some work, the history didnt match and thats when it was clear that the history of the car was false. So watch out! |

I think it's way over priced, which I said the last time it popped up on here a month or so ago. New engine, big deal, loads of classics sh1t themselves so that's nothing new, re-spray why? must of either had a bump or been very poorly cared for..
If I were shelling out £9k, I would want to see a pretty serious spec and a list of names that reads like the who's who of top Subaru tuners. Shiny paint and a bit of bling under the bonnet doesn't wash with me. :nono: If you really, really like it that much I would say £7k tops, but I have seen better spec cars go for £7k. |
Truthfully I would avoid it, too many questions over it in regards to the work done and how its running currently.
|
Yeah I think ill be giving it a miss, wait on something better, the cash is burning a hole in my pocket! lol.
|
I think that guy would sell it if he change the wheels, fitted a new steering wheel, removed the dangling fog light and relocated it into the cluster, put the original scoop on, fitted the original bonnet vent, put the dash centre & gear surround back to original, removed the SUBARU stickers, fitted original decals on the rear quarters and boot lid and put the engine bay back to original condition.
It's a rare car and should sell, it's just covered in chav tat that would only appeal to someone with similar taste and usually these people are buying far cheaper examples. |
Missed the front wing badges and orange indicators off the list!

If its a tyre R you are after there is a rather nice white one in the for sale section on here. Looks well sorted to me. |

Looks and reads a lot more genuine than the blue one above:

That is nice, what do we think of this one? Maybe to far from originality (dash etc)?

Best of both worlds. Newage comfort with Classic performance. Cant go wrong

Well it has a JDM short motor according to the ad, 6 speed, Bremobs, Revolutions, STi interior with STi 9 cluster/steering. Factoring that I would say its ok. 8k would be a good buy. Its on a 98 which should be a V4 but has a V5/6 front end.
Stock one would cost you between 4k-6k depending on condition |
Sounds like a parts bin special crossed with Frankenstein

The gumtree one does look nice, but personally there is a little bit too much modification going on there, I'd agree with it being V4, albeit a V-Limited, personally I'd much rather this was a more original V4 but with all the mechanical upgrades, the full facelift, dash, interior etc make it a bit of a mongrel and thus hard to justify the 9.5k asking, though not to say it isn't a nice car, it could be very good if everythings been done to the right standard. Also I'd want to know whether its a UK or JDM six speed.. I'd be hoping its JDM/DCCD.
It's worth a view that's for sure, and as a friend is finding out, good Type R's are getting hard to find and increasingly fetching more and more, so if this happens to be a cracker it's unlikely you'll go too far wrong even at this price.. |
Might well be a V4 (as all oe clues are easily changed) but just because it's a 98, doesn't automatically make it a V4. V5 started late 1998 in Japan and are registered here on an S plate 1998 V5. I've even had one myself.

Hmm trying to sell a car for 9.5k but skimp on a remap? Not a good start, dent in the roof doesn't sound to promising either. |
Looks to have a complete newage engine inc avcs heads, so would need an aftermarket ecu with wiring or a newage ecu and engine loom for it to be mapped. Sounds like may have run out of money and is looking to sell up and let someone else deal with the headache...

When I lived in London, my local tyre place would regularly put part worn tyres on brand new M3's
