Cooling system

Hi,
I have a 1995 GC8, import. Last week, heater stopped blowing hot air. Been cold since. Engine temp stays at mid level, does not overheat. Noticed today, that the rad cooling fans came on very quick after cold start up. Topped up coolant, burped system. Still the same. Is it a thermostat stuck closed/open? I had a new water pump installed few months back when i had the timing belt changed. Any advice appreciated, cheers.

Could be the 'stat stuck open...they rarely stick closed, since to do so would boil the water and burst pipes.

Could also be an airlock.
"Burping" the Impreza cooling system isn't a foolproof solution, sadly, it rarely works.

Many thanks. I'll replace the thermostat. Cheers.

Search on here also for the way to refil as just filling via the header tank nearly always gives an airlock.

Thanks mate will do. The thing that concerned me was why my cooling fans were coming on so quick. Never done that before. Had the motor about 8 years. Service it regular and had new rad put in last year too. Cheers.

Update: Took car to my mechanic, turned out it was a stuck thermostat. Thanks again to all.

That was the 'obvious' diagnosis. And you thought it could be that, yourself. Well played. :thumb:

Glad it was a relatively cheap fix.

Encouraging to know the OEM stat failed in the open position, too.
