Is your car an import or a UK car?

uk car bud.... does that mean has to have the bigger plates?

Have a read of this, UK rules for number plates

Characters must be 79mm tall
Characters (except the number 1 or letter I) must be 50mm wide
The character stroke (the thickness of the black print) must be 14mm
The space between characters must be 11mm
The space between the age identifier and the random letters must be 33mm
The margins at the top, bottom and side of the plate must be 11mm
Vertical space between the age identifier and the random numbers must be 19mm

Plates also have to the name, trademark, or other way of identifying the manufacturer or supplier, and the name and postcode of the supplying outlay.

As long as those points are adhered to, it appears the actual plate itself can be as small as you like.

I wanted a mars bar style number plate for a while, spoke to my mate who's a copper and said it's not worth the hassle if you do get pulled over for it, but also said it's very unlikely they'd do you for it. Whether or not that still stands when we now have tax linked to the car reg and if it would affect ANPR readings I'm not sure. Worth bearing in mind though.

On my previous '93 WRX I ran a small (half sized) front plate. Got pulled and fined £40 (back then).

The 'vanity' is not worth the (potential) ballache.

You're pretty much stuck with the standard size UK plate.

Yes folk will now post telling us all that they have one the size of a mouses dick on their car and have "never been pulled by 5-O" but as stated by others it really isn't worth the hassle.

My plate is 100% legal. Passes MOT every year no problems. Done to JUSt legal requirements with 11mm spacing outside of letters to the edge of the plate
