Android 5 Lollipop on Nexus 4

i have a Nexus 4 and the upgrade to Android 5 has been released has any one tried it yet?

when i upgraded to Android 4.2 it ruined the Stock Pop 3 email app on the phone so i am reluctant to upgrade in case it causes more issues with the handset

Sideloaded mine to Nexus 4 today as I couldn't be bothered to wait for mine to get the OTA update. Upgraded from 4.4.4, all works perfectly, no data loss and it's much snappier than before.

I have side loaded gmail 5.0 onto my phone it works very well with pop I map. Much better than stock email app.

If you are worried root the device, make a full back of the system. Install lollipop and try it out. You can then easily revert back or even try different roms.

I checked for it yesterday on my missus Nexus 4 and it just said the phone was up to date with kitkat.

I've also sideloaded Lollipop on to my Nexus 4. Process was pretty easy and all went fine. There are lots of little differences which are really nice. I have noticed it dropping the Wifi a little more than it did before but this is a known issue with Lollipop supposedly.

The standard email app is now defunct. You can\have to add your non-gmail email accounts in to the Gmail app. Seems to work fine though.

Thanks for that it is now available over the air

Not keen on sync my Pop 3 email with Gmail as they scan Gmail to sell you stuff via adverts

dont use Gmail most of the time because of that hence still using old Pop 3 mail

It's not that the email is going through Gmail the email service, it's rather that Gmail the app is now the single email client to use even for non-Gmail email accounts.

For example, my Office 365 account (full-fat Exchange) is now accessed through the 'Gmail' app. It's a crappy naming convention, but there it is.

In terms of analytics, I don't believe it is being 'scanned' by Google for ads and so-on - certainly I'm not getting in-line ads in my non-Gmail accounts - but I could be wrong. I personally would quite like it if it did do mailbox analysis so it can pull out things like flight and hotel booking info into Google Now.
