Viewed a TYPE R, haven't parted with ££££ after a few niggles that need advice

after owning three impreza's and parting with a blob sti that I didn't gel with recently I have been on the look out for a type r after getting my newage itch out the way,

Anyway a v3 is for sale not too far from me so thought I would take a gander,

The car in question has a 2.5 block which has recently been built with some nice upgraded parts etc, heads were inspected etc, and has just had its final mapping session done by a reputable specialist

The car gets down the road really well but a few things unnerved me and seen as I went all on my Todd there was no one to give me reassuring advice!

The first notable issue was when booting it in 5th (could of been in other gears but driving time was limited) then releasing accelerator that it seemed to judder,
The seller said that his mapper had told him that it was surging!!! And that if he went maffless this would stop this occurring, does this ring true with anyone?

The other issue was with the gearbox that recently was rebuilt with straight cut gears in 1st and 2nd,
It seemed to whine a bit in 1st particularly when at low speeds and wasn't sure wether this was due to the gears being straight cut, there were were no crunches etc and engaged every gear nicely,

The other thing with the gearbox was that when in neutral it didn't seem to want to return to its central position if pushing the stick to the left if to engage 1st,
Could just be a spring etc but was just another doubt,

Apart from these things and personal choices like wheels, loud dv etc it did drive well but just didn't feel confident parting with the cash at that time

Any advice would be appreciated

Engine work by advanced automotive who seem to have a pretty good rep, mapped by andrew carr on a power fc. On the whole it looks a good car but I would want more info on the gearbox

I think your right, I spent most of my time looking around the car etc and kind of neglected the paper work as it was getting on and the light was fading, not that I didn't look through it but wish I was a bit more thorough, I think the hesitation, judder would be resolved with going maffless but it's just another expense and you wander why it wasn't fixed throughout its running in and final maps!

Personally any car that the gearbox sounds like that I wouldn't buy even if its supposed to, its incredibly annoying.
