ZX-TT 20 November 2014 09:10 AM

I'm in bucks also and will keep an eye out. If i get wind of anything ill be straight in touch. I have also shared the facebook update on a few groups.

I hope you get her back.

Paulo P 20 November 2014 09:29 AM

Thanks :thumb: I can't believe that this has totally vanished and nobody knows a thing, it's very frustrating.

SwissTony 20 November 2014 09:52 AM

I have refrained from posting up until now as Micky had done the original post and so thank you for that.

This is my wife's car and to say he is absolutely devastated at the loss is an understatement to say the least !
She has had this car for nearly 8 years and in that time it has been so well looked after by quite a few people on here, a ton of work on it, it has been to Castle Combe, Santa Pod, been a family car and even our wedding car !

Obviously certain details have been held back from the theft due to this being a public forum but the search is ongoing.
A big thank you goes out to all those friends and friends of friends who have shared it on FB and have been actively searching for it.
We have not had a decent nights sleep since it went and fingers crossed we get some good news soon.

Cheers
Swiss

Any updates?

SwissTony 23 November 2014 09:37 AM

Unfortunately not.

We have had several tip offs over the last week and acting on that information we have been out ourselves searching for the car. Latest information is it is stashed somewhere but by now it could be trashed, broken or worst case torched.

In any case the police have had every bit of information passed to them and yet they prove to as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike !

Then we have the insurance companies. Two different ones to deal with, contents and car. Contents insurance have been thorough but fairly straight forward and yesterday sent a cheque to replace the items.

Car not so easy ! They refuse to believe that someone can steal a car without the keys :cuckoo: They obviously have never heard of the combination of determined professional thieves and frameless doors on an early classic :Whatever_
So we wait for them to get the picture but all mods were declared so they cant really argue and as proof the keys have been sent to them in a jiffy bag.

Been a horrible week but we shall just have to move on.

Sorry about your car being stolen hope it gets found. Who is the car insured with sounds like one to avoid.

Paulo P 23 November 2014 02:17 PM

It's insured through Liverpool Victoria and I simply can't understand how they don't know the theft risks on an early classic, surely an insurer should know what they are covering.

Lots of cars get taken with out keys using a tow rope and a pair of hands (yes it's that easy) slightly more advanced is to use a spec lift recovery truck as they will steal just about anything and there isn't any need for even entering the vehicle, my friend had his brand new ford St stolen with out keys again the insurance like yours refused to believe it and almost implied he had done it!! Until we obtained the managers email and sent them a link to a YouTube video of the odb hack they use to do it!

May or May not help a few years ago I had a Astra gsi stolen driven off from outside the house when I had the keys next to me ! Car had a Clifford alarm on, we went out to any tip offs with my set of keys and just pressed the fob next to garage doors until one went beep beep, pulled garage door off and the car was sat behind it all in one piece and even had more fuel In when it left! Turned out it was a prevouse owner who still had the spare key who had seen the cat by coincidence then come back with his scrubber mates!

Good luck pal and there maybe still hope realise there is nothing more frustrating

Is there anything you can do to prevent your vehicle being stolen by using a recovery truck.

flatfoured 15 May 2015 12:19 PM

You can make things slightly harder leave it in gear being 4x4 it will be a pig to get on, handbrake locks might help, if you have a driveway then buy a bollard. Anti tilit on alarms is a bit pointless as the vehicle only really needs to be a few mm of ground.

In short no there isn't iv a few friends that run land rover 90s and honesty its a common thing for them to be stolen, any way a few of those have old iPhones plugged into chargers wrapped in plastic bags and hidden behind dash, then just "find my iPhone" installed acts like a tracker and they only have pay as you go sims in them, benefit being if scum bag cuts car battery the iPhone will just run of its own for a few hours, this technique has worked a few times!

And for the sake of a 50 quid iPhone 3 or what ever and a charger well worth it in my opinion.

The truth is if some one wants your car they will take it you can buy a rotten spec lift truck for 800 quid it will take just about any vehicle going.

BrownPantsRacing 18 May 2015 09:34 AM

A friend of mine had his car stolen by a recovery truck in broad daylight. They parked next to it, lifted it onto the bed and drove off. The neighbours just thought he'd arranged it as it was broad daylight and done some blatantly. Amazing what they get away with sometimes.

Also had a friends RS Turbo (mint original) stolen without the keys. They broke in, snapped the steering lock and towed it away.
