Gutted! How was it stolen?

Paulo P 15 November 2014 11:25 AM

pushed away from the house and stolen old school we guess, they don't have the keys and it was alarmed and immobilised.

Paulo P 15 November 2014 11:34 AM

I am so sorry to hear about this theft, but If that's the case of how they stole it,its most probably in a lock up somewhere getting stripped,i hope that i am wrong but if they stole it without the keys they had no intention of using it sounds like it was strictly stolen for the part's:(.I will still keep my eye's peeled on my travel's,I really hope it's found and in one piece, these thief's really need dealing with:mad:.SJ.

jaygsi 15 November 2014 12:48 PM

I don't understand how they stole it?

I know the old import classic's had no built in immobilisers, but surely it had after market one?

mickywrx 15 November 2014 01:16 PM

Without going into detail, immobilisers are easy to get around if you know what you're doing.

Paulo P 15 November 2014 01:18 PM

Yes it had an alarm and immobiliser but they've bypassed it.

jaygsi 15 November 2014 01:33 PM

Parents had a few Vauxhall cavaliers no insurance company would touch them unless they had a immobiliser fitted, as to easy to steal, it did get broken into once but never got past immobiliser

If someone wants a car they'll get it, regardless of security.
Alarm and immobiliser will slow them down or be a deterrent. Stops most unprofessional thieves, but a pro will get past it.

Sorry to hear it's gone missing, hope it turns up in one piece.

AndyC_772 15 November 2014 09:37 PM

Gutted for you mate, that's terrible :(

Paulo P 15 November 2014 09:53 PM

So am I Lisa :( Thanks for the edit I wondered if it was you :)

hedgecutter 16 November 2014 08:00 AM

On the assumption that it may be broken for parts, what aftermarket bits are we to look for ? May be good to list a few. Hope it turns up. Good luck

Yes it's not too difficult, I have never understood why alarm manufacturers don't put a trigger into the hand brake mechanism as it's the one thing that needs to be released before the car goes anywhere, tilt sensors are all well and good but not many cars get lifted to steal them off your driveway.

Hope she finds it all in one piece.:thumb:

Spec list is a good idea, those wheels look lovely and I'll wager there's a few other tasty bits they're too that have attracted scum attention.

CutMasterT 16 November 2014 08:50 AM

Sorry to hear this. There are some utter scumbags out there. Fingers crossed for you. It's made me think about getting a tracker fitted to mine, maybe a quick release steering wheel.

joz8968 16 November 2014 09:57 AM

I have the NRG quick release and their locking mechanism thing to put over the boss after the wheel has been removed. (Also have an immobiliser).

As above, if someone wants/has staked out your motor, then no doubt they'll get it... But removing the wheel and having a robust, hard metal locking casing over the boss, goes some way in providing decent peace of mind. It'll surely slow them down enough to frustrate them, should their 'stealing time' be a factor e.g. it's not likely to be taken from a busy carpark, or just on an opportunistic whim... Even then, they've got to have a steering wheel with them, or maybe a big G-clamp! (Assuming you haven't left yours in the car, that is).

For around £100 for both items, for me, it's a no-brainer. (Plus, of course, it allows you to run your favourite aftermarket steering wheel/s ).

Of course, it can't prevent the car being lifted onto a flat-bed... Mind, nothing can!

Nice Classic... Hope it gets found. :(
