WRX Type R or WRX STi Type R?
Hi thinking of buying a WRX type R V Limited. Not sure if it is an STi or not. Does it make a difference in performance and in desirability and resale value?

They seem to be worth about half of an STI but are still around 300bhp. The previous owner is likely to have been on here if it is in the UK as they are pretty rare.
|
The main difference is no dccd on the wrx version and possibly no red top engine, send a private message to bonesetter, he is the resident expert on them because he has one, they are quite rare, most would probably value one at between £1/2k less than an equivalent sti type r.

Yep no DCCD as said, BUT they have ABS, what are you using the car for? Arguably the WRX could be an easier car to live with in the UK, especially if it's going to be your daily.
I really don't see there being any real difference in value, some may even prefer the WRX spec (closer to that of the P1) and given their comparative rarity to the STi variant it should shake out pretty much the same. |

:thumb: They are much rarer than the WRX STi Type R and as stated do not have DCCD, a red top engine (but the same BHP) and only came in Sonic Blue 74F V Limited Spec. Think of it as a Type R minus. http://www.type-ra.com/subaru-forum/...1/#post-118573 http://www.type-ra.com/impreza-my98-...e-r-v-limited/ |
"Type R minus" in a good way or a bad way?
Do they also have the same stronger engine internals like the STi? |
I have a Type RA Limited (non STi) with a similar spec. The main drawback compared to the STi are the non forged pistons and lower red line. Personally I like the minimalism of the non STi model - I'm not bothered about DCCD and the lack of roof vent and mid rather than high spoiler lends the car an attractive stealth quality.

Do they also have the same stronger engine internals like the STi? And no, the wrx varient didn't get the forged pistons. Also worth considering is that the wrx type r limited is a rarer car than a normal sti type r. This obviously increases it's desirability slightly so value wise I'd have them quite even. |
