Remap gains on a standard car
Just out of idle curiousity, what sort of gains could I expect to see remapping a standard Wrx PPP?
Ta |
10 maybe 15 bhp, really not worth it unless your going to do something with turbo, top mount, injectors, and de-cat up pipe, your talking £600+ including dyno time for ecutec or £300/350 road mapped open source, at very least you'll need a new fuel pump too.
If your going to do it go the whole hog but that's going to cost about a grand and you'll get it around 330bhp mark, which imo is worth the cost of mapping.:thumb: |
or you could go my route which is better brakes and then handling mods, they say brakes alone is equivalent to 50bhp and a good chassis set up can be worth even more.;)

One step ahead of ya. ;) Already done all the chassis mods that I'm prepared to do (brakes/arbs/suspension). Makes far more sense refining the chassis before doing much else.

My biggest problem was brakes, the standard 4 pots on the Wrx are woeful for the weight/performance of the car. Stuck a set of 4 pot APs on it and it's so much better under braking.

On another note, I've had a re-mapped wrx but that went from standard 225bhp to circa 280bhp back in the days when PPP was £1500, while it was quicker than my current one the brakes and handling were terrible and it was positively dangerous in my hands, smoking brakes and screeching tyres everywhere :lol1:
It also needed a rebuild at around 30k, it had all the 5k oil changes and was always run on shell optimax, was also mapped by a reputable mapper at the time, which is why i'm shying away from mapping this one, well that and the fact it has 111k on the clock. oh and I had it from new so knew all the history, that was back in 2004 so maybe things have moved on a tad. |

Ta Even though I asked for 1.4 bar. |

My 03 WRX PPP made 187 (240bhp?) at the wheels and after a remap 218 at the wheels (280?) Only change for map was Backbox and panel filter. Boost went from 0.9 bar to 1.0 bar.
Even though I asked for 1.4 bar. Is the PPP not at 1.3bar of boost as standard? I know my friends standard PPP certainly is. John |
Matt you may find your PPP is actually only a wrx that back box will have gave you at least 25 bhp,the mapper probably thought anyone who is dumb enough to think a 187 bhp 0.9 bar wrx was PPP certified only deserved a bar

1.3 bar, dropped up the revs due to the tiny turbo and massive catalytic exhaust restriction
|
.9 is std wrx boost as far as I'm
Aware? |
Boosted speaks the truth,do you have the certificate Matt?
|
It wasn't even 0.9, dyno run at AET showed 0.86
AFAIK my car hasn't had a restrictor pill in the vac hose until recently so maybe it was 1.3 bar once upon a time and that would have been enough to meet the claimed 265bhp PPP figure. I am reading it right aren't I? I don't have to work out altitude effects etc? Manifold Abs. Pressure PSI 12.6 = 8.68bar |
8.86bar. Now that would be fun.
Well, for the handful of milliseconds while it lasted lol. But yeah, 12.6psi = 0.86bar. |

Well, for the handful of milliseconds while it lasted lol. But yeah, 12.6psi = 0.86bar. It tails off to 0.68 bar which seems a bit scant. After it got remapped at AET boost went to 1.02 tailing off to 0.85 but made 218.4 (270-280bhp @fly) at the wheels, that seems strange power too for a low boost TD04 with 2 cats still on. Unless the graph is at the flywheel (which I don't think AET do) which means I ran an underpowered WRX at the strip to 13.7 mega confused. |
Anything below 200kpa is classed as NA
|
Isn't 200kpa around 2bar?
