Classics (with STi Brembo's) - Post up your wheels

I want to try and capture all the wheel options for a Classic that clear both the Brembo's and the arches.
As we know space is limited on classic, so would be good to capture the options.

I'll start with mine, which has an obvious wheel choice.

Genuine Prodrive P-FF7's, 8x18 ET51, 225/35x18 Tyres

But doesn't this include wheels not available in the UK.

In the USA they don't seem that bothered about getting the tyre profile right, ride height right or attacking the wheel arches with a baseball bat (in some instance dropping the car off the jack with magazines rammed in the arches, to fold/re-profile the arches)

You could maybe get about two rizla papers in the gap. :D

Scott.T 03 November 2014 09:53 PM

Can you include Tyre Widths & Profiles and whether arch rolling was required.

I'm aiming to go for 17's for winter and/or very occasional track use. But 'Track' biased Tyres then become the next issue. Plenty available in Newage Profiles but not many for Classic.

53 03 November 2014 09:58 PM

Loads of track tyres in 215/40/17 :)

Yeh, I suppose your right, and ok on a 7.5 inch rim.
I'm too used to 225 on the 8 inch'ers

53 03 November 2014 11:35 PM

The AD08's come up lovely on the 215 :)

Compomotive MO6 8x18 ET50. 215/35/18.

Not on Brembos yet, but obviously these clear them.

Sitting on WR Sport Bilstein/Eibach. Nowhere near needing rolling.

Nice but not 100% sure they will clear.
It's not the wheel area directly infront of the caliper that is normally the issue.
It's the inner edge of the caliper, near the hub, that normally makes contact with the wheel where the spokes flare out.

ET50 and 225 will make arch contact, especially if you still have the UK rubber trim.
My ET51 make contact with the rubber trim and the inner metal arch liner. They clear the outer arch with the rubber trim removed by the thickness of a piece of cardboard ripped from a Go-Cat (cat food) box.

They definitely clear Brembos on a classic, as I've seen at least one car with these and Brembos on here. They're a wheel designed for Motorsport and hence big brakes.

They clear Brembos on Newage cars, as mine were on an 02 STI in their previous life.

Here's another that shows the gap better.

They clear back, but maybe not the front.

I tried a set of 18 inch Ultra-lights on mine...fail....needed at least a 9mm spacer.
However, they cleared Hi-Spec 6 pots with ease.

Tidgy 05 November 2014 07:40 PM

yeah brembos are just silly width for some reason, most aftermarke ones are alot better, D2, ap's etc etc

dj219957 05 November 2014 10:16 PM

anyone had problems with brake pad overlap on the disc when upgrading to 4 pots or brembos on a classic?

Tidgy 05 November 2014 10:48 PM

they def the right disks?

dj219957 06 November 2014 07:43 PM

yeah measured at 295 (4 pots). last set were the same.

Tidgy 07 November 2014 07:40 AM

but the pads stick out from the edge of the disks?

I can't see how they will ever fit a classic.

Mine are fag paper close to rubbing on an ET51 8 inch rim.
8.25 ET35 would protrude another 19mm, that's out beyond the arch. Even arch rolling can't solve that.

yeah, tried two different sets of pads and discs

Tidgy 10 November 2014 08:26 AM

summit very strange going on then, the caliper mounting bracket set up for a larger diameter disk?

scoobyboy1 10 November 2014 07:48 PM
