Turbo 2000 - sti build
figured this should be here
well so far ive bought the car and thats as far as its gone after a v5 6 interior to start as the one in this is beyond cleaning ! the woman had cats 1 owner from new 103k rough all round bone stock but a solid engine and turbo so im happy :) http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h4...ps9dcefae9.jpg http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h4...ps1c909742.jpg so i got the car up on the ramp today and was impressed with how rust free it was :luxhello: also impressed with the roomyness underneath looks eaiser to work on than i thought it would be and then i got the pry bar out brakes all round are shot so new ones have been ordered rear diff bishes and axle mounts are way worn changing hard feels like your being kicked in the back so they have been ordered too found some oil leaks one is off a power steering pipe and one is somewere on the front looks like engine oil looks like the cross over pipe ? is this common ... seems to drip on the exhuast manifold wich is worrying http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h4...ps01d8380e.jpg http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h4...psc8250857.jpg http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h4...ps9e034da9.jpg thanks all advice appreciated |
today i went to Asworld breakers in Huddersfield . picked up a sti v5 interior a sti strut brace and some spare wing mirrors for when i paint
drove there had a look at everything all good and upon returning from there back to the workshop i found this on the bottom of the drivers seat http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h4...psb66a50eb.jpg on the base of the seat were the rails screw on the 2 captive nuts have sheard off. only explanation is someone put too much weight on it or threw it ? i dont know but not what i expected for £320 i only looked at the cloths and such as you dont expect this when buying seats. i ended up having to use the base from my standard seat and then putting the sti trim and sponge over it and putting it all back together ect. http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h4...psee17edc1.jpg http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h4...ps027450ba.jpg http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h4...psf2dd5dde.jpg here you see the holes were the nuts should have been http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h4...psda1def88.jpg after some fixing drivers seat in the car and heres the rest http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h4...ps948e0876.jpg interior is in ok-good conditon with a good clean will come up alright wont be fitting till next week |

right been busy as usual some updates
front calipers have been rebuilt and are working great ! have a set of coilovers on the way from mr miester R :) done the timing belt and water pump yesterday. got to say one of the easiest i have ever done on any car so roomy with rad out. had to make a holder to take crank pulley off wich set me back a little but all was well. Also since im a fabricator i got my arse into gear and made my exhuast 3" from the turbo back with the biggest back box i could fit ! im not one for noise http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h4...ps7e2b4d6b.jpg brace of amazingness http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h4...psb26ce0ec.jpg http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h4...ps6ecca2f1.jpg and heres the exhuast its a 3.5" tip straight cut http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h4...psb29087ee.jpg http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h4...s26c672d6.jpeg http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h4...scfafb30a.jpeg http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h4...ps1c822ae7.jpg she will need a remap soon still decidng on what ecu as i have a vf22 and a hankering for powaaar |
got my prodrive wheels yesterday ;) a bargain at £83 ! and i bought a 4th for 60 quid there gonna go away to be repainted gk1 original gold before fitting

Nice start ! I got those wheels too

the most common oil leaks that drip onto the headers and cause smoke are usually the rocker gaskets, followed by the cam and crank seals.
None particularly hard to change and you look like you know your stuff ;) Love the brace of amazingness :D Great project mate shall be following this :D |
cheers my oil leaks actually from the power steering metal pipes that run from one side of the rack to the other dont suppose its same size as brake lines ....??
on Tuesday i fitted my coilovers :) miester R zeta R the transformation is great car is lowered unknown amount i dont want it too low im after grip not looks the stock suspension was far too soft plus 15 years old !. turns out i need front ball joints so im going to do them possibly a rear anti roll bar get my prodrive wheels and new tyres on then get the geo done :) http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h4...psc75ddb6c.jpg http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h4...psc7e4c245.jpg also got some matts http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h4...ps817b246c.jpg |
Your car is coming along nicely now :)

Lovely job on the exhaust, I'm a fellow fabricator/welder also :)
|
thanks not alot has happened to the car recently.
someone hit the side of it and am hopefully going to get it painted within the next few months its developed a oil leak and there is a smell of fuel in the cabin. but only in the cabin and near the drivers side rear wheel but no were else for some reason and not around the cap. bought a td05 off ebay but it arrived damaged so sent that back needs a good wash |
I've bought the same cambelt kit, fancey a job ;)
Keep up the work, colour coding the exterior parts makes a massive difference to looks. |
thanks after much deliberation i have decided to break the car :( i want to spend more time abroad and having 3 projects is not ideal for that. its a shame all my money and time wasted
the timing belt is pretty easy tbh i just removed the rad for easy access or just buy my engine with it done lol |
