What tyres

So back to this old debate, hahaha

Just bught a type r and its got 888's on it, so plan A is new tyres. Had toyo's before on my previous classic but wondering what else is there. Spoke to afew places and came up with the following, (fitted price)

Toyo T1-R's - £81 a corner

Maxxis Maz1 - £64 a corner (reviews on here seem to say they are pretty good)

but then spoke to local place and they said that green max (aka linglong) have brought out a new version of there tyre and they have tried it on a few different cars, tuned/untuned, fwd/rwd/awd and found them to be on a par with the toyo's,

Greenmax - £55 a corner

so begs the question, are they actualy any good, anyone tried them?

additional one

Kumho Ecsta Le Sport KU39 - £82 and according to ratings alot better in wet than the toyo's

HAD Yokohama Paradas on mine - they were pretty good. Bit more grip than the Toyos I used to use, but less warning that they had reached their limit.
Lasted quite well too.

Nokian Z-Line. £70 a corner in 205/50x16. Proper tyres, terrific in the wet. Not a lot more expensive than budget ditchfinders, but every bit as good as the 'premium' brands.
ymmv.

I wouldn't even touch the t1r too soft for my liking and not as good that people make out imo.
R1r are better.

Nankang ns2r are my budget choice ATM, excellent in dry and ok in wet. And a capable track tyre. Around £100 a corner in 17

agreed the t1r sidewall is far too soft especially if your going to bulge them like they are on stock wheels i would go for a yokohama Ad08 great wet and dry around 100 a corner

I have these and yes they are good in the wet but squeal like hell on any tight cornering at any speed at any tempreture

Sad Weevil 02 November 2014 08:27 PM

Just to point out the Nokians out score all the other tyres mentioned in this thread on every tyre test and review site, by a big margin. The Toyos are rated E in wet grip, the Nokians are rated A. You won't find them at Camskill though, only the online sellers based in Europe.
